“Don’t worry, baby, you’ll get used to it,” I winked and proceeded to prove it to her.

- FAMILY HEIRLOOM

ZOEY BLACK

Ifelt a familiar pair of hands run down my body as my eyes slowly fluttered open. "Happy New Year, baby," Adrian cooed softly into my ears. A few months passed, and a lot changed. Things like Adrian's insatiable hunger for me, however, remained the same. Especially since we renewed our vows with only Claire, Olivia, the Black’s, and our kids present. His parents initially expressed their displeasure at being fooled, but they couldn't stay upset as our love won them over. After a lot of persuasion, we succeeded in convincing Malory to move in with us at John’s Creek so she could enjoy access to the best medical facilities and I could help her with my expertise in caregiving. So far, we have observed changes and improvements. It was a win-win as the kids thrived in her presence.

"What's on your mind?" Adrian whispered, nibbling lazily on my ears.

"I'm just glad. If anyone had told me that this was how my life would play out, I'd have bashed that fucker in," I jested, playing with the huge chunk on my hand. Adrian had replaced the plain band he gave me at our sham wedding with this huge chunky family heirloom. Apparently, it had been passed across several generations of women within the family, and now it was mine. And it felt right. I felt right at home, for once. I felt a burning sensation scolding my cheeks at his words.

"This day last year when you walked into my office looking so ethereal, I didn't know you'd become the most important person in my life either. You've made me so happy, Mrs. Black. And I love you so much," Adrian said, kissing my ring.

"I love you so much more, Mr. Black. Nothing will ever come between us again.”

On cue, a loud scuttling noise started coming from downstairs. Speaking of things that never change...

"First to catch the ball gets to play with Ted," Jason called out from somewhere within the house. The floor creaked as he stumbled up or down the stairs—it was difficult to tell above the noises. The two girls expressed their displeasure in loud squeals as they raced after him. A heavy thud echoed across the house, followed by a sharp cry of pain.

I immediately sprang into action and ran in the direction of the living room, where Rose sat on the ground, clutching a bloodied knee.

"Oh, baby. Does that hurt?"

"Yes, Mommy. Please make it better."

I carried her to the nearest seat and placed her down gently. "Wait here, darling." I went to the medicine cabinet and grabbed some ointment, disinfectants, and a band-aid. I returned to the sitting room where Jason and Rory stood by, peering guiltily at their injured sister. First, I wiped the wound with some disinfectants, making Rose wince a little.

"That's my baby girl." I put some of the ointment on and blew on it. When I was sure it had been absorbed, I plastered a band-aid on and placed a little kiss above it.

"I've kissed it better, baby. Now it's going to heal in no time. But I hope you learned a lesson. You guys, too," I said, turning to the two gawking children who stood a few feet away. "Mommy won't always be around to make it all better, so you should be mindful. Do not do things that will put you in harm's way. And you, Jason, you always have to look out for your sisters. Share your toys and be kind, all of you. Do you hear me?"

"Yes, Mommy. We won't run around the house anymore,” Rose whispered.

"And we'll share our toys," Rory chipped in with a cheeky smile.

"And I'll always look out for and protect my sisters."

"That's good, all of you. I am so proud. Come here, bring it in."

They all ran into my open arms with big smiles. "I love you."

"We love you too, Mommy."

"Now off you go, and try not to get into any more accidents."

I groaned and returned to the room where hubby was waiting and...

Ready.

"I hate having to share your attention with those young ones. It's always Mommy this, Mommy that.... A break please."

"Better start getting used to it. Soon, they won't be the only ones calling Mommy."

He turned to me with his signature sexy smirk and groaned, "Are you pregnant, Zoey Carter?"

I gave a smirk of my own. "Wouldn't you like to know?" I managed to gasp as he tackled me back to the bed.

The End.
