“What other things do you know how to make?”

“Unfortunately, our cooking skills fall short. Instead of taking some of the traditional classes, we were being prepped to take over the family business.”

“Oh.”

“But don’t misunderstand, babydoll. We still know how to take care of a woman. We learned from the best. Our fathers.” Declan poured the vegetables into the pan. “And, of course, Jessie has been enjoying teaching us a few things here and there.”

“Our parents have been together for almost forty years.” Thomas looked at me and smiled. “We hope to find a woman to share that kind of love with.”

My stomach flipped, but I couldn’t stop to think about it. I couldn’t get my hopes up when I knew deep down, I wasn’t the right woman for them. They needed someone who didn’t have baggage and who could hang around the house all day while they worked, like my ex had originally wanted.

I had a clinic to run.

“How many fathers do you have?”

“Two,” Thomas answered.

“And you have a younger brother, right?”

“Yes. He’s a few years younger than us. Declan and I are only two years apart. Adam is another five years younger.”

“You didn’t want to add him to your relationship? Or do you only have two men to one woman?”

“By the time Declan and I started learning about the traditions, he was still too young. When he became of age, we had already agreed on it being just the two of us, and he wanted it to be with his three other friends.”

“Wow, four men?” My eyes bulged.

“Honestly, our parents originally wanted Thomas, Stefan, Mikel, and I to be a unit.”

“And what about the woman you need to find? Did your parents ever try to find one for you?”

“Plenty of times. They think they have the perfect woman for us, but we don’t agree.” Declan commented as he continued to sauté.

My chest tightened. Their parents already found a woman they thought was perfect for their sons. Even if Thomas and Declan wanted me, their parents wouldn’t likely agree.

I looked at my hands, twisting my thumbs around.I wanted to ask them what would happen between us if their parents pushed this other woman to be theirs, but our relationship was too new, too fragile to risk questions like that.

Thomas and Declan continued to cook, working in silence. I didn’t know what to say, so I watched them. They were a fluid team—one I wished I could be a part of.

They refused to let me help, and before I knew it, the table was set, and breakfast had been served. Thomas brought out coffee for me, and Declan cut up fruit.

We sat down, my place between the two of them like when we had dinner. Declan served me the omelet while Thomas scooped the fruit onto my plate. It was nice to be taken care of. Lord knew my ex never treated me like this.

I moaned with the first mouthful.“This is delicious. The woman who lands you both will be very lucky.”

I caught them looking at each other in my periphery but ignored it. I may not be good enough to be the woman for Thomas and Declan, but they liked me enough that I was going to enjoy everything I could while I was here.

“So, what’s on the agenda today?” I asked once I’d finished my plate.

Declan’s hand brushed my thigh and rested on my knee.

“First, I want to toss you on this table and taste your sweet honey again. Then maybe we can bundle you up and get you outside for some fresh air.”

“Good. I want to check on all the horses to make sure everyone is faring well after the storm. It’ll put my mind at ease.” Being cooped up in the house for two days made me anxious. My father had checked in the day before, and it sounded like everything was fine on his end.

My phone buzzed on the table.

Glancing at it, the lock screen showed the brief message.
