“Of course,” I said. “And you have Mikel at your disposal, as well. He has agreed to go over everything if you have any questions. He walked Dr. Henry through his contract at the beginning. We have nothing to hide and want to make sure you understand all aspects of it.” I slipped my hands into my pockets.“We were planning to bring the contract to you tonight.”

“Oh, okay. I’ll reach out to him then.” She still had a stunned look in her eyes. I wasn’t sure if she completely understood there was no wedding. “I’ll take the contract now and be on my way.”

“It’s in my office. Why don’t you come in and have a seat? It was a long drive for you to just turn around and leave.” Thomas gestured to his office.Besides, we needed to have a much longer conversation.

Alex narrowed her eyes, then walked into his office.

“May I take your coat?” I offered when she passed me.

Shrugging off her jacket and scarf, she handed them to me and took a seat in one of the chairs. “Would you like some coffee?”

“Um, sure.”

Mrs. Roberts appeared out of nowhere and took the clothes from me, winking before she turned away.Of course she had been listening to our conversation.

“Now, before we discuss the contract, I’d like to know something, Alex. If you thought we were getting married, why did you rush down here?” I leaned against the corner of Thomas’ desk.

“I wanted to see if it was true. I knew you said you didn’t want to marry Tori, so I was coming to see if there was anything you could do to get out of it. I wanted to apologize since I figured it was my fault with the article.” She got up and paced around the room. When she stopped, she looked down as she twisted her hands in front of her.

“You’re right. We didn’t want it, and when our mother found out we’d found the woman we wanted to spend the rest of our lives with, she ended the arrangement to let us go after her.” Thomas stepped forward and tipped her chin up to look at him.

Her breath hitched.

“Now, we’ve tried to reach her ever since she walked out on us, but she refuses to answer our calls. We certainly can’t tell her we’re in love with her in a voicemail now, can we?” I said, joining Thomas.

“Why would you want me? I can’t have kids. I have no money. I have an ex who I can’t get rid of. I’m not fancy like Tori or those other women you typically go for.”

My muscles tensed.

“We love you and want you. We don’t need children to live a long and happy life with you.” Thomas grabbed her hand between his.

“We don’t want your money or your practice, Alex. We want you. We want your smile, your laughter, your heart, your soul, your love. We want all of you, and in return, we want to give you all of us.” I cupped her cheek.

“We want to marry you.” There was no going back now. It may have been too early to say those words, but I needed to.I couldn’t let her walk away one more time without her knowing how I felt.

“What if I don’t want to get married again? My first one, as you know, ended poorly.”

“That’s because he didn’t know how to treat his woman properly. If he did, she would have never even thought about leaving. But it’s also in our favor he didn’t. Now we can show you what it’s like to really be loved.” Thomas’ voice was rough as he fought his emotions.

“But you didn’t trust me enough to tell me everything.” She sniffed back tears.

My chest tightened. It was true. We should’ve been honest as soon as we knew she was interested in us.

“We regret that, and we promise to always be truthful with you from now on. The only way to make this kind of relationship work is through communication and trust. As for your ex, we took care of him. He won’t be bothering you again.”

“Took care of him? You didn’t hire someone to kill him, did you?” Her eyebrow ticked up.

“No, but your problems are our problems, and we will not allow our woman to be harassed by another man.” My jaw tightened thinking about that asshole.

A light rapping on the door broke the moment.

I looked to see Mrs. Roberts bringing in a tray of coffees. She smiled and handed one of the cups to Alex.

Alex’s eyebrows furrowed. She brought the drink to her lips and took a tentative sip.

She looked up at Mrs. Roberts. “A caramel latte?”

“Oh course, dear. The guys bought a new fancy coffee maker, so I could make you your favorite coffees.” Mrs. Roberts said, then turned and left us alone again.
