“You guys did that for me? After we broke up?” She set her coffee cup down on the desk.

“Why wouldn’t we, babydoll? You said that was what you liked. So, we got it for you so you could have it every day.” It didn’t seem like a big deal to me, but there was something about this tiny gesture that made her eyes sparkle.

“No one has ever done something like that for me.” Tears broke free and rolled down her cheeks. “You don’t know how much it means to have someone actually listen and care about me, even over the small things I mention in passing.”

Thomas wiped away her tears with his thumbs.

“Sweet Alex. We want to give you the world, and if the coffee maker means so much to you, I’ll buy one for every room in the house.” Alex let out a little laugh at Thomas’ words. “I love you with all my heart. I have since the first time I saw you. Fate wouldn’t have brought you to us if the timing wasn’t right. We may have made some mistakes, but we’re more than ready to make up for them if you’ll let us.”

“I love you, too, Thomas.”

Thomas kissed Alex as more tears rolled down her cheeks. This time, I hoped they were happy tears.

My chest filled, and my throat tightened.

When they separated, Thomas turned her to face me. I closed the distance between us.

“I love you, Alex. There was never a doubt in my mind you weren’t meant for us. I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you and showing you how much you are loved and cherished. Will you be ours?”

“Yes.” She smiled sweetly. “I love you, Declan.”

My heart felt like it was going to explode out of my chest.

I placed a light kiss on her lips. This felt right, like I was coming home. Her in my arms, my lips devouring hers… She was mine, and I wasn’t going to let her go.

I heard Thomas shuffling in his desk drawer. I knew exactly what he was getting.

“We’re doing this the wrong way,” he said as he stepped up next to me.

I glanced at him. This was it.

We looked at the amazing woman standing before us and slowly lowered to one knee.Thomas held out the little black velvet box.

Alex’s hands flew to cover her mouth.

I reached over and opened the lid, revealing the large diamond with two rings of smaller diamonds around it. The ring had two bands covered in diamonds as well, one for each of us.

“Alex, will you marry us?” Thomas and I said together.

She nodded, then pulled her hands away. “Yes.”

I reached into the box and pulled the ring free. Thomas grabbed her hand, and we slid the ring onto her finger together.

I stood and picked my new fiancée up and kissed her with everything I had. She had just made me the happiest man alive.

Well, maybe Thomas was just as happy as I was, but I was over the moon. We hadn’t planned on it like this. We talked about dating and going slow until she was ready, but the moment was there, and it felt right.

I released her and handed her to Thomas, so he could have his first kiss with his new fiancée as well.

Not a moment later, the house staff came in, cheering. Of course they all were listening in. Martin came in with his phone held in the air. He turned it, and we saw Dr. Henry on the other end of the video call.

That man sure knew what he was doing. He said he would help us and to be ready for when it happened. I never in a million years expected for him to go all in like he had, but I was grateful we had him on our side.

It didn’t take long for news to spread on the ranch and everyone to come congratulate us.

After dinner passed and everyone dispersed, I wrapped my arms around Alex, nuzzling her neck.

“I’ve missed you, babydoll.”
