“I don’t want to drag your father’s image down with me.”

“Oh, screw that.” She rolled her eyes. “My dad doesn’t care about what people say. That’s exactly how he got this far. By not caring what people say. He believes in what he believes in,” she stated.

I knew that firsthand and that was one of the things I liked the most about George. But still, my pride wouldn’t let me talk to him about this.

“Let’s just go with my initial plan. We will go to court and file a restraining order.”

“If you won’t let my dad help, then you have to agree to this one thing.”

“What’s that?” I asked her.

“First of all, you have to pinky swear that you will not say no.”

“Lily, what are we? Four?” I whined.

“Just promise.” She held out her pinky finger and I begrudgingly linked her pinky finger with mine.

“There, I pinky swear,” I said.

“Great. I will let you know what it is when we are back from court.” She smiled.

Was she being serious right now? What was the suspense about?

“Now, come on. Finish your iced Americano. Are you sure you don’t want some snacks to go with that?”

I shook my head. I really wasn’t in the mood to eat. I hadn’t eaten anything all day and I didn’t even feel hungry in the least bit. I just wanted this whole Darius issue to pass over me.

Lily placed her hands on mine and smiled at me.

“Don’t worry, babe. We will figure this out together. Nobody messes with my best friend and gets away with it especially not that motherfucker.”

“You’re the best, Lily.” I smiled.

“I know, right?” She laughed.

I valued precious moments like this with her. I wondered if things would change between us when she found out that I was dating her father. Would she accept our relationship? Or would she just think I was one of those gold diggers who just used her to get close to her father. I really hoped she never saw me in that way and I hoped that things between us didn’t change because Lily meant everything to me.

By the timeLily and I arrived at court, I was already feeling much better and I couldn’t wait to file this restraining order.

“You ready?” Lily asked me after parking her car in front of the state court. I nodded and a small smile graced my lips.

She opened the door and walked out of her side of the car while I came out from my side. My phone rang in my purse and I fished it out. It was an unknown number. I didn’t like answering unknown numbers because it could be a prank or something.

Either way, I picked it up.

“Hello,” Darius said on the other end of the line. My body instantly went cold and Lily stood beside me.

“Are you okay?” she asked me and I nodded.

“Oh, I see you’re with the boss’ daughter right now.” He chuckled.

My hands curled into a fist while I spoke through gritted teeth. “What do you want?”

“Even though I wanted us to be civil about this and reach an agreement, your little outburst the other day has left me with no choice,” he said.

“Would you just get to the point already?”
