“Check your phone. I just sent you a message,” he stated.

I rolled my eyes and placed the call on mute while I searched through my inbox for any new messages.

“Are you okay?” Lily asked me again.

“Yes, sure. I’m fine. Just give me a second,” I said to her as I clicked on the new message. My heart dropped as soon as the picture was downloaded and I saw who was in it. It was a picture of George and me from our date night at the Golden Fish.

I unmuted the call.

“What do you want?”

“We do this the easy way or we do it the hard way. The easy way, you accept to be my fuck toy and this picture never gets out, but if you don’t, daddy’s little girl will be getting a new message very soon. It’s your choice, Kat,” he chuckled. “Clock is ticking. I’ll be expecting your answer before midnight. Enjoy the rest of your day.” And with that, the line was disconnected.

“Who was that?” Lily asked me.

“Nobody important. I’m guessing it was a prank call,” I lied.

“Was that Darius? What did he say to you?” she asked and I remembered the picture lying in my gallery. I also remembered how Darius had threatened to show her if I didn’t comply. I suddenly felt weak in the knees and completely light-headed. Everything around me was starting to spin.

“Kat? Kat! Kat!” Lily yelled as I welcomed the darkness that engulfed me.

CHAPTER21

GEORGE

“What do you mean you don’t know what you did?” Marcus asked. I didn’t like the accusatory look he was giving me because in honesty, I really didn’t think I was at fault this time. I didn’t do anything.

“I swear to God, I didn’t do anything. I’m so clueless,” I groaned.

“Maybe it’s something you didn’t do.”

“Something I didn’t do? How does that even make sense?” The bartender placed our drinks in front of us.

“You know with women, they get angry over the things you did and didn’t do. So maybe this time, she’s pissed over something you didn’t do.”

“Katrina isn’t the type of woman to not tell me if I did something wrong. She can’t keep things bottled up inside her for long. She will always find a way to explode and lash out,” I stated, rubbing my forehead.

“Are you absolutely sure you did nothing to mess this up?” he asked me.

“Dude, I was able to get her to help you work on your present for Deborah and we were completely fine.”

“And that present was a killer, by the way. Deborah and I finally see eye to eye.” He winked. “I should personally thank Katrina one of these days.”

“Are you not getting the point? You will never be able to thank her in person if you don’t help me fix this.”

“The way I see it, you just need to talk to her.”

“You think I haven’t tried? She told me her world doesn’t revolve around me this morning.”

“Harsh.” He sipped his whiskey and when he looked up at me, I noticed the playful look in his eyes was gone. “What the fuck is he doing here?” Marcus asked, looking at someone behind me. I turned around to see who it was and it was no other person than Darius that thieving, scheming, conniving bastard.

“I thought he was banned from ever coming here,” I said.

“Well, there’s nothing money can’t get you these days. And he is walking towards us and smiling.”

“Just play it cool,” I muttered.

“Gentlemen.” Darius smiled as soon as he reached us.
