"George, what are you doing here?" Darius asked, with a hint of nervousness in his voice.

My eyes narrowed, my jaw set in determination. "We need to talk, Darius. Now."

Darius gestured to a chair, his voice wavering slightly. "Of course, George. Please, have a seat."

My steps were measured as he closed the door behind me, settling into the chair opposite Darius' desk. The room seemed to grow smaller, the air thick with tension. I fixed my gaze on Darius, my eyes burning with a mixture of anger and protectiveness.

"I know what you did to Katrina." My voice was steely, filled with accusation.

Darius shifted uncomfortably, his eyes darting around the room. "George, I—"

"Save it," I interrupted my voice sharp and unwavering. "I've heard enough. You crossed a line, Darius. You made unwanted advances toward Katrina when she worked under you. That is completely unacceptable."

Darius' face paled, a flicker of guilt flashing across his eyes. "George, I'm sorry. It was a terrible mistake. I never meant to hurt Katrina or betray your trust."

I knew he was lying. He knew he was cornered and there was nothing he could do at this point to save himself and that’s exactly why he was putting up this act.

I leaned forward, my voice low and dangerous. "Mistake? This goes beyond a simple mistake, Darius. You abused your position of power and violated her trust. Do you have any idea how that feels?"

Darius' gaze dropped to the floor, shame etched in every line of his face. "I never intended for it to go that far, George. I got carried away, and I deeply regret my actions."

Anger surged within me, my fists clenched tightly. "Regret won't change what happened, Darius. You need to understand the consequences of your actions. Katrina deserves respect, and you failed her."

Darius met my gaze, his voice filled with remorse. "You're right, George. I was in the wrong, and I take full responsibility for my actions. I'm truly sorry for the pain I've caused Katrina and the strain it has put on your relationship."

My voice softened slightly, but my eyes remained firm. "Sorry isn't enough, Darius. Katrina deserves an apology from you directly. She deserves to hear it from the man who betrayed her trust."

Darius nodded, his voice tinged with sincerity. "You're right, George. I owe her an apology. I will make sure she knows how truly sorry I am."

I rose from my chair, my presence commanding. "Good. And know this, Darius, I will be watching. If you ever cross the line again or make her feel uncomfortable in any way, I won't hesitate to take further action."

Darius swallowed hard, the weight of my words sinking in. "I understand, George. I will do everything in my power to make amends and ensure this never happens again."

As I walked out of his office, I knew everything he just said to me had gone down the drain. Darius wasn’t sorry and I was very sure he had plans to still send that picture to Lily. That was if he hadn’t sent it already.

CHAPTER22

KAT

Isat on Lily’s bed as the intensity of her gaze hit me. I couldn't even bring myself to look up at her or even come face-to-face with her after she showed me the picture Darius had just sent to her. It was not just the one he had shown me earlier. He also added a few images of George and me kissing.

The air was thick with tension, as if the room itself held its breath, waiting for the storm that was about to unleash.

Darius had exposed our forbidden relationship to Lily. I never anticipated that our secret would be unveiled in such a brutal manner. The betrayal and hurt etched on Lily's face tore at my soul. She was my best friend, and I had caused irreparable damage to our bond.

George chose to walk into the room at that exact time. At first, he was completely oblivious to what was going on.

“Lily, you’re back from the mall already?” he asked, but when she lifted up her eyes to look at him and he saw the tears in her eyes, George stopped walking. He looked at me and I nodded, tears streaming down my face.

“Lily, I promise you, I can explain,” George said, but she wasn’t having it.

Lily's eyes blazed with anger, her voice shaking with fury as she confronted us. "How could you? Both of you! I trusted you, Kat. And you, Dad... How could you betray Mom like this?"

My heart sank as Lily's words echoed in the room. I never wanted to hurt anyone, especially Lily, but our love had consumed us, blinding us to the consequences of our actions. I had fallen for George, and he for me, in a whirlwind of emotions that we couldn't control.

George stepped forward, his face a mixture of guilt and desperation. "Lily, I... I'm sorry. I never intended for any of this to happen. I love your mother, but I also found something special with Kat. It's complicated, but please try to understand."

But George's attempt to explain only fueled Lily's anger. Her voice rose, filled with betrayal. "Complicated? Is that how you justify cheating on Mom? And with my best friend, no less! I can't believe I looked up to you. You're just like all the others."
