She didn’t know she was doing me a huge favor by leaving. I would be able to watch over Kat.

“Great! See you later!” Lily grabbed her purse and walked out of the house.

As soon as she was gone, I took the stairs and headed straight for Lily’s room.

When I opened the door, Kat was already awake.

Her eyes brightened as soon as she saw me walk in.

“George,” she whispered, trying to get up.

I rushed to her side and held her down gently.

“Don’t. You need adequate rest and food.” I smiled.

“How am I in Lily’s room?” she asked me while holding my hands. I could not help the warm feeling that seeped into me as she held my hands. It felt like home.

“You lost consciousness at the courthouse,” I said and she gasped.

“I know, Kat. I might not know everything but I know just about enough.”

Kat sniffed.

“Lily told you, did she not?” she asked.

“I had to force it out of her, but yes.”

“I didn’t want to burden you.”

“You have never burdened me, Katrina.”

“I didn’t want you to think badly of me.”

“I would never think badly of you, Katrina.”

“He has—” she cried.

“Baby, please don’t cry. I’ve told the housekeeper to make you something to eat.”

“No. I mean, Darius, he has a picture of you and me from our date at the Golden Fish and he threatened to show Lily if I didn’t accept his demands.”

“That fucking bastard.”

I was going to teach him a lesson. Nobody messed with my girl or my family and went away scratch free. I would teach him a lesson he would never forget.

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. And I’m sorry I acted weird and I pushed you away when I shouldn’t have. I just thought I could handle this on my own, but Darius, he’s a psycho. He’s sick.”

“I know, baby. I know and I’m glad I know now. I will take care of everything I promise. And as for Lily, I’ll tell her about us when she is back from the mall.”

“No, George. It’s not the right time yet. Lily can’t find out about us yet,” she said and I groaned.

What was it with her and telling Lily at the right time?

The tension waspalpable as I made my way through the corridors of Darius’ office building, my footsteps echoing in the silence. The weight of betrayal and anger bore down on my shoulders, fueled by the knowledge of what my girlfriend had endured at the hands of her former boss, Darius. Determination etched into every line of my face as I reached Darius' office door.

I knocked firmly on the door, the sound resonating through the room. The door swung open, revealing Darius, who looked up from his desk, surprise flashing across his face.
