She looked over at me. “I thought I was to be your wife, Antonio. I thought you loved me.”

“Why would you think I love you, Serena?” I paused and then looked at Tommasso. I smirked, knowing I was about to cross the line. “I’ve already had you. Why would I put a ring on it to have you again?”

Within seconds, I felt Tommasso’s hand against my cheek. Hard. I grabbed it and squeezed it with all my might. I could see him looking thunderously at me as he tried to withdraw his hand from my grip.

“That is the first and last time you will lay hands on me, Tommasso. You may be the family consigliere, but I am the underboss. One day I will be Don, and your blatant disrespect of my power and authority in command has not been unnoticed.”

“You disrespect my family,” he said. “You disrespect my daughter. You ruined her, and you don’t want to marry her?”

I blinked at him. “Do you think I’m the only man that has lain with Serena?” I looked back at her. Her face was ashen.

“Get in the car, Serena,” Tommasso growled. She hurried away crying, and I waited until she was in the car before I continued.

“I did not want to disrespect you in front of your daughter, Tommasso. But I will not be marrying her. You’re done.”

“What do you mean?” he said. As I let go of his hand, he stepped back and shook his shoulders. Jimmy stepped forward, gun cocked in his hand, ready to shoot if Tommasso decided to be an idiot.

“I mean exactly what I said. Your days are done.”

“You cannot fire me. Your father is boss.”

I smirked as I took a step forward. “You may think that he holds the power, but we both know that I control what happens. I make the decisions. I am the brains behind the Marchesi family. My father is a mere pawn.”

“If he heard you say that, he’d kill you himself,” Tommasso said. “You think you are better than Don Roberto? You think—”

“I think you better stop there,” I said softly. “I think you better leave. This dinner is over.”

Tommasso looked at me and then looked at Jimmy and shook his head.

“You’ve messed with the wrong man, Antonio. You may be the underboss of the Marchesi family. You may be heir to the famiglia. But no one disrespects me and my daughter. No one.” He headed back to his car. Jimmy took a step back and then looked at me.

“You okay, boss?”

I nodded. I could see Callie’s face was nervous.

“It’s okay,” I said, stepping forward to grab her hand. She shook me off.

“You are literally bad news,” she said, her face flushed. “Serena doesn’t know it, but she’s lucky.”

“She’s lucky?” I said, raising an eyebrow.

“To be married to someone like you would be a nightmare,” she spat out. “You’re cold. You’re mean. You’re arrogant. You’re selfish. Who would want to be with someone like you?”

“Well, you were with me last night and this morning. Shit, I bet part of you wants to be with me right now. Is your pussy quivering thinking about my cock fucking you?” I said, angry at her words.

“No,” she said, “I’m as dry as a bone.”

“Liar,” I said as I stepped forward and grabbed her hand and pulled her toward me. “We both know you’re wet as a mop right now.”

She looked up at me obstinately, her lips trembling. “Well, you’ll never know.”

“Oh yeah?” I said, my hand against her stomach, sliding down.

She gasped. “What do you think you’re doing?”

“Checking,” I said.

“Uh, boss,” Jimmy said from next to us.
