“What? I’m just inquiring because if there are, you should speak up now before we leave.”

“You know what, Chelsea? Whatever.”

She giggled and then looked over at Finn.

“He doesn’t mind.”

“I certainly don’t,” he said, shaking his head. He stepped toward me and kissed me on the cheek. “And you shouldn’t be so modest, Harriet. You didn’t seem to mind when we were—”

I slapped him on the shoulder. “Stop, Finn. Stop encouraging them.”

“Okay,” he said, holding his hands up and moving to the side. I caught a whiff of his cologne again, and my body shivered involuntarily.

“What is that cologne you are wearing?” I asked. “It’s really intoxicating.”

“You think so?” he said, staring at me with a raised eyebrow. It’s something I’ve created for myself.

“Yeah, it is.”

“I was going to say something,” Polly said as she stepped toward Finn.

“Oh, about?” he asked.

“About your cologne. It’s really…” She blushed slightly.

“What are you thinking, Polly?” I asked my sister.

“I don’t want you to get mad, but it’s like a really sexy smell.”

“I know it is,” I said. I “You should bottle it up and sell it.”

“I might just have to do that,” he said, laughing slightly. “So we’ll go to your parents’ now?”

“Okay,” I said. “You really sure you want to do this, then? It’s slightly unconventional.”

“What’s unconventional?”

“For you to be meeting your new employee’s parents.”

“But we’re more than an employer and employee,” he whispered in my ear.

“We are?” I asked softly, biting down on my lower lip.

“I would think so. I mean, we just banged not more than two hours ago.”

I blushed slightly. I wanted to ask him what we were. I wanted to ask him if this was going anywhere, but I didn’t want to be one of those sorts of girls. We barely knew each other, and it wasn’t like he’d taken me on any official dates or anything. I let out a little sigh, and he frowned slightly.

“Hey, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” I shook my head quickly. “I just… Nothing,” I said.

“There’s something on your mind. Why don’t you tell me, Harriet?”

“I just don’t know what’s going on between us. You know? We are having fun, and we like to flirt, and I work for you, and I don’t know. It’s just all sorts of complicated, and now you’re going to meet my parents and…”

“And what?” he said. “If it makes you really uncomfortable, I don’t have to.”

“I mean, I just don’t know why you want to meet them.”
