“What flowers you’re using for what, Dad?”

“Ooh, look at that limo,” Molly said as a stretch limo came up the street.

“What is going on?” I said, shaking my head, and my jaw dropped when the limo stopped outside the house.

“Oh, good. It’s Benedict,” Finn said, and I shriveled inside. I did not want to see Benedict.

Benedict stepped out of the driver’s side and headed toward the house in his dark suit. I avoided eye contact with him, even though I knew he’d just been acting. I still didn’t want to get too close to him, just in case.

“Ooh, who’s that?” Molly said, and my jaw dropped.

What the hell? Was Molly crazy? Benedict walked over to her, took her hand, and kissed it.

“Nice to make your acquaintance, ma’am. My name is Benedict. I’m the butler for Mr. Joseph.”

“Wow. Nice to meet you, Benedict,” Molly said, her eyes widening as she touched him on the shoulder. “You’re very distinguished and very handsome, and oh my gosh, you smell absolutely divine.”

“Why, thank you, ma’am.”

“My name’s Molly,” she said, beaming at him. “I’m an actress.”

“Well, a very beautiful actress you are as well.”

I wanted to retch. This was gross.

“Maybe I can tell you about some of the—”

“Molly, over here,” I called, and she blinked and looked at me.

“Yes, Harriet?”

“Let’s go inside.”

“Okay.” She shrugged nonchalantly at Benedict. “We can talk later.”

“Certainly, ma’am,” he said, bowing.

She hurried over to me. “What was that about? There was no need to speak to me like that, Harriet.”

“You were just flirting with a dirty old man.”

“What dirty old man?” she asked, looking confused.

“The butler, Benedict.”

“He’s not a dirty old man. He’s a distinguished-looking, middle-aged man.”

“Um, distinguished because he is a butler, maybe. Middle-aged, hardly. What has come over you?”

“I don’t know,” she said. “But as soon as he came in my presence, he just smelled absolutely divine. And I don’t know, I just kind of wanted to hold him close and breathe him in.”

“What was that you said?” Finn asked. I looked up to see that he was listening to our conversation.

“Finn, you’re so nosy.”

“No, I’m just curious what you said. You said when you smelled him you just wanted him to fall into your arms?”

“Or for me to fall into his arms,” she said. “I just wanted to be close to him and hold him, and I don’t know.” She made a face. “It was weird, the feelings that came over me, like there was just something about his charm and charisma and—”
