Melody nodded. “It would be appreciated if you did. Perry would be mad if I let our secret out.”

“It’s ridiculous that having an inheritance needs to be a secret.”

Melody pulled into a strip mall and parked in front of Fancy Nails. “

“Yeah, I agree, but I’ve seen people change once they find out I’ve got a nice egg nest.” She tipped her head to the side. “I always say that backward. Nest egg.”

“Melody,” I laughed.

She reached into the backseat and grabbed her purse. “Let’s go. For the next few hours, you are not going to think about anything.”

“I don’t think that is possible, Melody.”

She rolled her eyes and opened her door. “Lennox, you need to learn how to relax. All the problems you think you have are solvable. You and Jonas will be fine. You’ll move to Wisconsin. You’ll find a new job. Can we now go get our nails done?”

“Fine,” I huffed, “but you can’t know any of that will actually happen.”

“You are going to drive me crazy before you ride off into the sunset with your biker boy, Lennox.”

I opened my door and looked up at the bright pink sign on the building. “I’ve never gotten my nails done before.”

“Oh,” Melody called. “This is going to be good, Lennox. Fan is going to take really good care of you.”

I slammed my door shut and sighed.

Well, this was not at all the way I had seen my day going, but here I was. Getting my nails done for the first time with the secret millionaire of Clinton because I was now unemployed and on my way to being homeless.

“Chin up, Lennox, I have a feeling your life is about to do a one-eighty, and I think you need to just hang on for the ride.”
