“Yes,” he acknowledged. “But what I’m really trying to say is that sometimes the amount of time of knowing a person can be irrelevant. I knew the moment I first looked at you that I was going to fall in love with you,” he confided.

She swallowed, her eyes wide as she stared at him. “You did?”

His gaze remained unwaveringly on her. “Yes.”

“Do you love me now?”

“Very, very much,” he confirmed softly.

Mia couldn’t count how many times in her life she’d wished someone would say those words to her. But having that someone be Darius, the man she loved in return, was… It was everything.

“I love you too.” She choked over saying those words for the very first time. “I love you so much, Darius!”

“I’m not too old for you?” He frowned.

“Am I too young for you?” she returned.

“Everything about you is perfect, including your age.”

“Everything about you is perfect to me too.” She liked Darius’s maturity. It made her feel protected and safe whenever she was with him. Something Darius had been effortlessly doing since the moment he found her unconscious in Giles Fletcher’s apartment.

“Is it too soon to ask you to marry me?” he prompted gruffly.

Was it? Mia really had no idea how relationships were supposed to progress, although she had a feeling the two of them declaring their love after only knowing each other for a few days wasn’t exactly normal. But when you knew, you knew. And Mia knew without a doubt that she loved everything about Darius. The man he had been, the man he was, the man he would always be.

Mia’s chest swelled with emotion. “Yes.”

Darius’s expectant expression morphed into disappointment. “It’s just too soon? Or you don’t want to marry me, ever?”

A happy laugh exploded from Mia. “I meant, yes, I would love to marry you. Now. Today. Whenever you want.”

“Thank fuck for that…!” he groaned, his arms tightening about her. “But we better not tell our kids or grandkids that was my response.” He winced.

She swallowed. “Kids and grandkids…?”

“You told Nikolai you want children, and I have no intention of you having them with anyone else but me,” he assured.

“Caveman!” she murmured affectionately, her arms moving up about his shoulders as Darius’s mouth claimed hers in a fierce and never-ending kiss.

The kiss continued as Darius swung up into his arms and carried her back to his bedroom.

He placed her on the unmade bed before kneeling between her parted thighs, a hand on the pillows either side of her head as he looked down at her. “I thought they were never going to leave,” he groaned, burying his face against the side of her neck.

Mia’s arms tightened about his neck. “Make love to me fully, Darius.”

He lifted his head, eyes burning with heat. “We still don’t have condoms, remember?”

“Does it matter if we’re getting married?”

“I’m more than happy if you want to finish your university class and then utilize your business degree before we have kids.”

“I want to open an animal shelter.” The idea had come to her some time over the past three days. “I’d take in strays, but it could also be somewhere people could drop off their pets for the day while they’re at work.”

“It would make your dog-walking business redundant,” Darius teased.

“I’d incorporate that service into the shelter.” She eyed him nervously. “I’d like to keep Honey, if you agree. It already feels like she’s ours.”

“Of course we’re keeping Honey,” he assured before staring down at her searchingly for several long seconds. “You would really want to continue to go to uni and then open your own business, even though you might be pregnant at the time?”
