“We’vebothhurt one another. Maybe it’s time to stop.” She rests her forehead against mine, her hands cupping my cheeks comfortingly, and I can feel the tension leaving my body under her touch.
I exhale a silent sigh of relief as she glances away before I continue. “If you work here, then Iknowyou have your reasons. I—I—wouldn’t hold anything against you…”
She raises her head, her eyes peering into my soul. “I bartend. Mostly.” She nibbles her lip, glancing skywards in thought. “And I was a beard for a while—”
I can feel my face freeze when my eyebrows hit my hairline. “Awhat?”
She tries and fails to stifle a smile. “It’s a story.”
“I’m thinking we have a lot of them to tell. Giving you a week to fall back in love with me may have been great in theory…” I smirk self-deprecatingly. “But when you’ve got fifteen years' worth of catching up to do, I could have led with a lunch date.”
“I thought it was romantic. Very on-brand for you.”
She giggles as I press my lips together in a suppressed grin.
Sobering slightly, I reach up and wrap my hands around her wrists. “You did the most amazing job raising our son, Bambi.” Her eyes fill with fresh tears. “He’s magnificent. And that’s entirely you.”
She presses a soft kiss to my mouth. “He’s always reminded me of you, Cade. His looks, his mannerisms, his musicality–his ability to love with his entire self, freely and with complete abandon.”
“Our kind of love isn’t easy…but it’s a once-in-a-lifetime love.” I swallow roughly, clearing my throat. “And Iknowthat it’s worth working at. That what we have is worth all the hardships because the reward is that much sweeter.”
My eyes drink in the rapt expression lighting up her beautiful face as I hesitantly ask the question I need the answer to. “Do you think we can work at it together, Bam?”
Her face splits in a blissful smile, and she nods slowly before pressing another kiss to my upturned lips. “Caden Atticus North, that would make me the happiest woman on the face of this earth.”
I lean closer, taking her mouth in a slow, leisurely kiss. A kiss that promises more.
A kiss that promises we have all the time in the world.
I deepen the kiss, and she moans into my mouth as she winds her arms around my neck, tugging me closer. Her bare tits scrape off my shirt, begging for my attention as I register sounds in the hallway.
“Summer? Are you—oh,shit!”
I shield Summer’s bare chest with my clothed body when Vaughn spills into the room, Ford hot on his heels, slamming into his back when he stops suddenly.
“Ever heard of knocking?” I roll my eyes at the two men before they give us their backs, almost in synchronicity.
“This ismyclub. Knocking is not a requirement forme.”
Without missing a beat, I reach around Summer to my discarded wallet atop the booth before launching it at their turned backs. It hits Vaughn’s back, then falls to the floor with a soft thud.
“Add it to my gold card, and get the fuck out.”
Ford bends to retrieve my wallet, tossing it to Vaughn with a smirk. “I’ll have what he’s having, but make it brunette.”
Vaughn strides through the door, calling behind him. “I charge by the half-hour.” Once he’s crossed the threshold, he turns to us, giving me a once-over with a no-shits-given look on his face as he tugs the door closed. “Though your bill should be substantially less. You strike me as a two-pump chump, pretty boy.”
Ford chuckles deeply in his chest as the door swings closed, locking with abeep.
Summer drops her head against mine, nibbling her lip. “Oh my God, I’ll never be able to look either of them in the face again.”
“Who cares about them? I say we show that fucker I’m atleasta three-pump chump.”
Summer’s laugh chimes through the room, turning to a low moan as I take her mouth once again, kissing her as though I can’t get enough of her.
When I lean back, she whimpers at my abandonment of her mouth. I grasp her around her waist, lifting her onto the booth at her back with ease before sliding my hands along the inside of her thighs.
“Open for me, Bam. I’ve got some serious apologising to do to my girl.”
