She draws me in against her chest, stroking my hair back from my sweaty forehead before pressing a kiss to the top of my head.

“You really outdid yourself.”

Despite my boneless state, my mouth splits in a shit-eating grin, and I twist my head slightly to look up into her smiling eyes.

“Do you think we might have made Bug a big sister tonight?” My fingertips trail reverently across the damp skin of her stomach, and my heart skips a beat in hope.

One side of her mouth fishhooks upwards in a half-smirk. “Unlikely.”

Her eyes twinkle impishly as my brows draw together in confusion at her conviction. As she places her palm on the side of my face, she brushes her thumb across my cheek.

“I told you already, husband.I have a gift for you.”

Her eyes leave mine to linger pointedly on my hand that’s resting on her stomach before coming back to imprison me in her chocolaty orbs.

Goosebumps break out across every inch of my body when I realise what she means.

“You’re pregnant?”

Her eyes shimmer with emotion as she nods.

With that simple gesture, my heart clenches almost painfully, and my throat seizes when an onslaught of feeling overwhelms my entire body.

I ease my body away from Summer’s, moving down until I’m in line with her stomach.

Taking a moment, I gaze in sheer awe, as though I can see inside to the tiny miracle our love has created.

Tears fall unheeded from my eyes, landing soundlessly on her perfect skin. I brush them away, gently guiding my fingertips along her exposed flesh in nothing less than complete worship.

Leaning closer, I close my eyes as I press my lips against my wife’s stomach, kissing both her and the babe within with every ounce of love I have to give.

Summer’s quiet sob lands on my ears as her hands glide across my head. I begin to softly croon “You Are My Sunshine” with tears in my eyes and happiness in my soul at this dream come to life.

Because the time is finally right.

EPILOGUE

SUMMER

SIX MONTHS LATER

“Where in thename of God are you taking us, Cade?”

My husband's deep chuckle beside me makes me smile despite myself.

My nose twitches beneath the soft cashmere wrap he’s asked me to place over my eyes in a makeshift blindfold as he drives us to a mystery location.

His left hand lands on my burgeoning bump, gently rubbing our little one safely growing within, instantly soothing my creeping nerves.

“Do you trust me, Bam?”

His whisper eases me further as he softly pats the top of my belly.

“Always.”

He chuckles. “Then have some patience and enjoy the ride.”

I snort. “That’s what got me into this state, or don’t you recall.”
