I pull down on her bottom lip with my thumb, and, ever-so slowly, she runs the tip of her pink tongue along her top lip, never once breaking eye contact with me.

“It’s a dangerous game we’re playing, Rey.”

The car rolls to a slow halt then, breaking the spell in the nick of time.

I suck in a deep breath before sliding back across the seat, taking a second to adjust my rock-hard cock as I go. Rey’s eyes follow the move, widening in surprise.

“Don’t look so shocked, Sunshine.” I grin, shoving all thoughts of kissing her to the very back of my mind. “To pretend the mere sight of you doesn’t get me harder than granite would be pointless, especially if you’re about to be my wife.”

My grin widens at her sudden gasp. “Don’t worry. I’ll look my fill so I’ll have plenty for the wank bank when I inevitably need to fuck my fist every night for the next year.” I wink just as Ford, who’s driven us, opens the door behind me, and cameras begin to flash. “I won’t touch you, though. You’re far too good for the likes of me.”

Her brows draw together as I slip from the car, nodding to our new security guard before plastering my media face on so that I can smile brightly for the surrounding cameras and watching celebrities.

News of my newly found relationship status has traveled far and fast. Vaughn—the only one in the know outside of the Malones, whose silence Bailey was obviously able to ensure—was able to “leak” information on how long I’ve known Reyna and how we met, among the other lies he was more than willing to help me concoct.

I do so appreciate my exceedingly morally grey friend.

However, tonight will be the first time anyone has heard of our impending nuptials, so things will surely be interesting.

I twist about to assist Reyna, and she takes my outstretched hand with a gentle smile that does nothing to help the semi that refuses to deflate beneath my dress pants.

She steps from the car, and I’m utterly helpless to stop myself from bending down to press a soft, lingering kiss to the silky skin of her cheek.

Pulling back, I catch and hold her eyes as I mouth the words she needs from me. “I’ve got you, Sunshine.”

I straighten with a smile, tuck her arm into the crook of mine, and together we step forward into the blinding flash of camera lights, leaving Ford at our rear.

The red carpet is a long, tedious affair. Media outlets shout for our attention, desperate to be the first to speak with the only woman I’ve ever brought as a plus-one, outside of Liv or Mila, of course.

I murmur words of encouragement in Rey’s ear as we pose for endless photos, and her small intimate smiles of gratitude see me preening shamelessly like a motherfucking peacock.

We’ve almost made it inside the Koch Theater when I finally spot Kennedy Sawyer, the young intern at DeMarco Holdings who’s been promised a permanent position if she asks the questions I’ve especially mandated for mine and Reyna’s first informal interview.

“Let’s answer some questions before we go inside, Rey.”

I drop my hand to the small of her back, ushering her toward a delighted Kennedy.

“May I ask you both a couple of questions, Mr. DeMarco?”

I flash what I know is my most charming grin. “Of course. Shoot.”

The surrounding outlets watch on, practically ignoring everyone else as they wait with bated breath to see what happens next.

Kennedy takes out her list of approved questions, and a sudden gust of wind knocks them from her hands. “Oh, I’m sorry. Hold—hold on.”

She scrambles after the card, leaving a gap in the surrounding news hounds. They begin to shout again. The questions are more easily heard now that we’re standing closer to them.

“Is that an engagement ring, Miss Marquez?”

“Are youreallypregnant?”

“Word on the street is hepaidyou to be his girlfriend. Can you comment, Miss Marquez?”

I grit my jaw at that last one, and with no sign of that damnable intern returning, I press a comforting kiss to Rey’s temple before taking her hand in mine. As we’re moving away, I halt when the crowd’s shouts all seem to unify, one word echoing on repeat as the entire gathering screams for one thing.

The very thing I’ve been fighting for far too long now.

“Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!”
