“And I was about to turn him down if you hadn’t steam-rolled in.” She exhales in plain annoyance. “Ireallydon’t want to argue with you about this, Alex. I’m going to the restroom. When I return, we will leave, and we willnottalk about this conversation again.”

She sidesteps around me and marches directly toward the restrooms. It takes my feet a second to catch up with my brain, but when it does, my brow knits, and I jog after her.

“What did he mean about being broken, Rey? Did somebody hurt you? Didhehurt you?”

I can see her spine stiffen, but her stride continues to eat the ground.

Before she can reach the sanctity of the women’s restroom, I grab her arm and spin her around the corner, taking her through the first door I find.

Once we’re inside, I close the door behind us, realizing that we are in a small ballet studio.

She rounds on me; the fire in her eyes appears to have dimmed in the darkened space but is no less intense.

“What on earth are you doing, Alex? I need to use the restroom—”

“No.” I cut her off with a single word before prowling closer. She backs away until her ass hits the barre that runs the entire length of the floor-to-ceiling mirrors of the studio. “You don’t need to use the restroom, Rey. You wanted to avoid talking to me.”

Despite the darkened room, I can see the flush that climbs from her chest all the way to her cheeks. “No, that’s not true at all.”

She tilts her chin, and her defiance is honestly the sexiest thing I’ve ever witnessed in my whole fucking life.

“Tell me what he meant then.”

Chewing her bottom lip, indecision plays across her features. “I don’t want to, Alex. I can fight my own battles.”

I move closer and closer still until she’s within arm’s reach. My words are low and filled with barely constrained anger at whoever it is that forced her to fightanybattles. “If anyone hurt you, Rey…if someone tried to break you somehow—”

She leans forward, stopping me when she plants her palms on my cheeks. “You have it all wrong. Todd didn’t mean that I was brokenbysomeone. He—he meant that…”

She trails off, allowing her hands to fall away as her chin drops to her chest with a heavy sigh. When she speaks again, her words are so softly spoken I need to strain my ears to hear them.

“He meant thatI’mbroken…when it comes to sex.”

“I don’t understand—”

“He wasn’t able to make me…you know…”

I gulp in an attempt to quell my rising heart rate.

There’s nowayshe’s saying what I think she’s saying…

“He wasn’t able towhatexactly, Rey?”

She lifts her head, clearly annoyed at having to spell it out. “I’ve never had an orgasm, okay? Happy now?”

“As inever?” I strive to keep the incredulity from my tone, and fail miserably.

She huffs as she moves to step around me, but I palm her upper arms gently, halting her to bring her in against my chest. I wrap my arms around her, holding her tight against my body until I feel the tension begin to ebb from her shoulders.

“You’re not broken, Sunshine.” I press a kiss to the top of her head. “Learning how to play a woman’s body is like blind reading sheet music for a complicated piece by Chopin.”

I smooth my hand over the back of her head, drawing it slowly down across her exposed spine, allowing myself a small smirk when I feel a shiver run through her body.

It feels as though I’m having an out-of-body experience when I run full throttle right into the fire.

“It takestime.”

I press a lingering kiss to one flushed cheek, utterly ignoring the alarm bells that are going off inside my head.
