He nodded. That meant Charm’s breakup with him had nothing to do with her family, he mentally concluded.

“Will you be joining your band in Ireland before the end of the summer, Dylan?”

“No. When I leave here I’m headed to the Red Flame Ranch to check on things.”

Moments later he pulled the car up to a huge security gate and gave the attendant a code. The man smiled politely and said, “Enjoy your night, Mr. Emanuel.”

“Thank you, we will.”

When they pulled away, Charm said, “A nightclub that’s tucked away behind a security gate?”

He smiled over at her. “I figured we’d want to dance the night away without worrying about photos being plastered in the tabloids tomorrow. You wanted a night of dancing, and I want to make sure you get one.”

They took a number of turns around a well-lit and manicured yard before the building came into view. Although they couldn’t see the ocean, they heard the sound of it. When he brought the car to a stop, a valet quickly moved forward to greet them.

Dylan came around the car to stand by Charm’s side, a place he intended to be for the rest of the night. While dating, she had told him how much she liked to dance. Not as much as she liked to shop, but it had been a close second. He’d always wanted to take her dancing, but they were never together long enough for him to do so. Tonight, they would be.

“Ready?” he asked, taking her hand firmly in his.

She smiled up at him and beneath the nightclub’s bright lights, he could see the excitement in her eyes. For some reason, he was glad he was the one who’d put it there.

The one word Charm would use to describe the nightclub wasmagnificent. Not only was live music being played but there was even an orchestra. The dance floor itself was one she hadn’t seen before—a triple-decker sandwiched between beautiful spiral stairs.

When they’d been shown to their table, even before they could order drinks, she had pulled Dylan onto the dance floor. They had only danced together a few times, in the privacy of her house in Anchorage that summer he’d come to visit. She had wanted to go out but couldn’t risk being seen by one of her brother Maverick’s friends. At the time Maverick had been the king of nightclubbing.

They were now seated at the table to drink their wine and chill before getting back on the floor. She liked how she and Dylan danced together. He’d told her once that he wasn’t a good dancer but he’d done a great job with all the line dances and was even familiar with a couple she didn’t know.

“I’m truly impressed with this place,” she told him, glancing around. Already she’d seen a number of television and movie celebrities, as well as musicians, vocal artists and other performers. A number of them stopped to speak to Dylan and he’d introduced her as an old friend. At least he hadn’t referred to her as an old girlfriend.

“This is my first time here. Several people suggested I visit here while in Cancún, but I had no plans to do so until you mentioned you wanted to go dancing.”

“Well, I appreciate you bringing me here.”

When the upbeat music slowed down to the hold-your-girl-tight-in-your-arms type of music, Dylan’s gaze caught hers. It was a hypnotic moment. That’s how it had been with them from the beginning.

“Dance with me, Charm.”

His request made her breath catch. Not because it had come as a surprise but because she’d been expecting it. “Alright.”

When he held his hand out to her, she took it.

Dylan escorted her up the staircase to the second dance floor. She wondered if he’d chosen that particular dance floor because the lighting was darker than the other two. Although she wished otherwise, anticipation had her insides shivering and when he pulled her into his arms; her body automatically sank against him.

She needed to stay in control to seduce him and not be taken in by the essence of his masculinity. Keeping her head on straight and her guard up was paramount. However, she was finding both hard to do when his hand came to rest across her back.

His touch made her ease even closer to rest her head on his chest. She couldn’t help closing her eyes and breathing in his scent. It had the ability to kick-start the womanly needs within her.

“Are you okay, Charm?”

She opened her eyes and tilted her head back to look at him. She’d been totally aware of him the moment she opened her villa door. Dressed in a pair of dark slacks and a buttoned-up blue shirt, he looked gorgeous.

“Yes, I’m okay. Why do you ask?” Because of the dark lighting, she couldn’t see his eyes, but she didn’t need to do so to know they could mesmerize her.

“No reason.”

There had to have been a reason. Had she made a sound? Maybe even a moan?
