Page 26 of Vengeful Minds

The old rusty door creaks open as the guys enter the room and gather around the table, looking tense.

Jax, Sinner, Shadow and Cruz take their seats at the table that my father once sat at the head of. Today starts a new era for this club one way or another, things are changing, and I can only hope we will have their full support.

The men sitting before me are the only members I trust with this information. King has eyes and ears everywhere, but these men are loyal to the club, not the man.

If the guys and I go at this alone, I’m sure it would’ve stirred up a lot of shit with the other members. But at the end of the day, King has betrayed all of us. He turned his back on the Reapers and everything we stood for. He broke every oath he took when he patched in and on the day he became Prez.

Straightening my shoulders back, I look across the table, making eye contact with each of them as I start to explain why we are here. “I wanted you all to hear this from me. My dad’s done a lot of fucked up shit over the years. Most of it has been unsanctioned by the club, and I’m sure there’s plenty more that hasn’t come to light,” I tell them. Jax’s face is dark and unreadable, Shadow and Sinner’s icy glare holds my attention for a minute before I look over at Cruz whose face is scrunched up looking worried.

The tension in the air could cut through glass.

“Your old man has made his own bed, kid, and now he’s got a lie in it. Unfortunately, he’s made a lot of enemies, the biggest being the Cartel,” Cruz sighs, tapping his knuckles against the table then thrusting his hand through his thick, salt and pepper hair.

“I’ve tried to keep this under wraps, but I fear they’re only seconds away from kicking in our door because they’re hungry for blood, whether it be King’s or ours.” Cruz fills us in. Shadow and Sinner stiffen. It’s no surprise the Cartel is moving in. We all knew eventually it would happen if we couldn’t turn over King like they wanted.

“Well, there’s one more thing that you guys need to know about. My dad‘s the person who shot Angel and Gabriel,” my voice detached and hesitant, waiting for Jax to explode.

Jax jumps up from the table. “What the fuck do you mean? How do you know for sure? Did Angel remember something?” He stumbles over his words, looking like a madman.

Jax is a lunatic when it comes to Angel. She helped him through the toughest times in his life. We knew he struggled but he would only ever open up to her. The two of them share secrets that none of us know about.

“Last night, when I was over there, she woke me up in the middle of the night saying that her memories from that day had come back. It was King,” my voice strained. My anger is boiling over, and my nerves are getting the best of me right now.

“Do the guys know?” Jax asks in a storm cloud of his own emotions.

“Lucky is with Angel now, so I’m sure she’s filled him in. But I didn’t want to tell anyone until I talked to Cruz.”

I stand up and walk over to Jax, who is pacing back and forth. I’m filled with so many emotions.

Guilt.

Anger.

Rage.

And most of all, my mind is Vengeful.

I place a hand on his shoulder, trying to calm his inner demons, but there’s no use. You can see the darkness swimming in his eyes. He’s unhinged at this point. I take his head between my hands and look him dead in the eye.

“I made a promise, brother. If I found out my father was involved, I’d kill him myself. I meant what I said.” Regret fills me for wasting so much time not believing what everyone else knew in their heart to be true.

I drop my hands and turn around to face the others. They all look stunned by this revelation. But it’s no mystery King has skeletons ineverycloset.

My gaze locks on Cruz. “I need to know the club is on board with us. We’re going to take down my father,” I say. Jax growls out in agreement from behind me. “None of us want to go against the Reapers, but we will if we have to. I know you guys don’t have old ladies, but Angel is ours–”

Jax lets out a sinister laugh cutting me off. “Ours?Oursdoesn’t even begin to describe her value if that’s what you were going for. She’s worth more than every man in this building, tenfold. Angel is priceless. She doesn’t belong to anyone but herself. That’s what makes her special,” Jax grinds out.

I exhale; when Jax gets like this, it’s hard to reel him in. He needs to be with Angel before he loses control.

“You’re right, Jax, Jax,” I respond, trying to appease him. “But the point I’m trying to make is, how would you feel if someone took a shot at your ol’ lady? You’d want blood, right? Well, that’s exactly what we need. King’s cold dead body covered in blood. Then he can’t hurt Angel or anyone else we care about ever again. Angel deserves her retribution,” I snap.

Shadow and Sinner rise from their seats, standing with us in solidarity. “If the roles were reversed, we know you’d have our backs. So count us in,” Sinner replies.

I look to Cruz, who is deep in thought. “And the club?” I ask dryly.

He stays silent for a beat. With a deep sigh, he stands alongside the rest of us.

“The old timers won’t like this. King’s still a Reaper, and they won’t agree with the Sons being involved. We take out our own trash. That’s the way things have always been done, and King is no different.” You can hear the tremble in his voice. Going against King could start a revolt within the club, but he’s willing to take that chance to help us.
