If I thought I could get away with hugging this man, I would, but he’s liable to clock me for trying.

“Thank you, Cruz.”

“King has a lot of men that are still loyal to him. So we need to be careful on who we bring in on this one. Only people we absolutely trust. Got it?”

“You have my word,” I respond, holding my hand out.

Cruz grabs my hand and pulls me in for a hug. “Make sure you can handle the outcome of this,” he says in a low voice.

“The biggest problem we face is not knowing what we’re up against. We have no idea how many men are working for King or if he’s aligned himself with someone else,” Shadow states as he begins thinking over the next part of the plan.

“It’s safe to say whatever we think we know about King, we don’t. We need to pull all of our resources to find him,” Cruz explains. “Shadow, do you and Sinner have any military friends that you can get in contact with to help us out?” Cruz asks as the guys talk back and forth between themselves before responding.

“Yeah, boss. There are still some guys we know in the area. Shadow and I used to freelance for them from time to time, right after we came from overseas. We’ll start calling in favors,” Sinner responds, pulling his phone out and typing away.

My phone starts to buzz in my pocket. I pull it out to silence it when an unknown number flashes across the screen.

I hit the side button and shove it back into my pocket. Within seconds Cruz’s phone vibrates. He pulls it out then looks at me curiously. “Who just called you?” He asks me, his mouth forming a hard line.

“No idea. Telemarketer maybe? The caller ID said unknown,” I respond.

Cruz answers the call by putting it on speakerphone. “Hello.”

“Can you hear me, son?” King shouts angrily through the phone.

My eyes widen in surprise at the sound of his voice. Cruz places his phone on the table as the five of us crowd around it to hear what this fucker has to say.

“Yeah, I can hear you, old man. What the fuck do you want?” I respond, hatred seeping out of me. He has somefuckingnerve.

“Is this the way I raised you? To sit in a room full of men plotting on your own father? You ungrateful little shit. I tried to do you a favor by taking that whore out of the picture. And this is how you repay me?”

I press mute on the phone, looking at the others, fear crawling up my skin. “How the hell does he know what’s goin’ on?”

“Fuck! I don’t know,” Cruz shouts, frustrated. The guys frantically start searching the room for any hidden devices.

“You may as well stop looking, Cruz. You’ll never find them. Besides, what kind of president would I be if I didn’t have every inch of that building tapped? Only a fool would blindly trust those idiots not to undermine him. Now, look at you. Got caught with your hand in the cookie jar,” he laughs menacingly, making my skin crawl.

“So you’re the type of man that spies on his own brothers?” Cruz spits.

“Brothers? Naw man, don't kid yourself,” King chuckles. “The only brother I had, turned his back on me a long time ago. He was so hurt that I killed his little boyfriend, weren’t you, Gabe.”

A shiver takes over me as I listen to the muffled screams in the background. My eyes find Jax, who looks as shocked as I feel. That’s confirmation enough for me. King has Gabriel.

“Yeah, you should’ve never turned your back on me for that piece of shit Sean. Gloria paid for your sins, though. In more ways than one,” King snarls, sounding deranged.

“So you admit it then? You killed Dante’s mom!” I shout, pounding my fist into the table.

“Well, of course I did, son. Who else would’ve done it?” he admits, laughing maniacally.

“I’m coming for you, dad. You better watch your back.”

“Not if I find you first, son.” The call ends as I watch Cruz storm out of the room. The guys and I glance at one another before rushing out the door after him.

Cruz sticks two fingers between his lips, letting out a screeching whistle, entering the room with a bang. “Listen up! I want every member of this club here within the hour,” he says, stalking off toward the door. He whips his head back, noticing everyone still standing around. “That was a fucking order!” He shouts. “You four, with me,” Cruz points at the four of us, then heads outside.

King has been one step ahead of us this entire time and that ends now.
