Angel starts to sob in my arms as I hold her tight. “You’re just now figuring out who this man is. I’ve known for a long time. I need you to understand and make the others understand just what he’s capable of and the lengths you must go to protect the ones you love.”

The pain of losing the person you love most in life is hard to overcome. But knowing that person was stripped away from you is a harder pill to swallow. It’s consumed me in ways I can never explain.

The torment of knowing I could have stopped him.

The rage that’s burned inside me all these years, knowing the club let him get away with it.

“I can’t imagine what that must have felt like for you, but I promise, I’ll die before I let anything like that happen to Angel. I’ll burn the whole fucking world to the ground to protect her.” There’s sincerity in his voice, and the look he’s giving Angel right now tells me he believes as much, so I’ll leave it at that.

Words hold little weight, but actions speak volumes. Only time will tell if he’s a man of his word.

I drop my head and kiss Angel’s temple before releasing her. “Now that that’s out of the way, we have a baby to discuss.”

Chapter fourteen

Angel

This cannot be more uncomfortable or awkward. I wanted to have this conversation with Gabe, alone. Not with Lucky. The two of them despise one another. What good can come from any of this?

“We have a lot to figure out, Gabe. Can we please do this another day?” I plead with him, giving my best puppy dog eyes.

He gazes from me to Lucky and shakes his head. “No, I think we need to have it now.”

“I get your reservations about me and the guys, but we’ve spent our whole lives loving Angel. This doesn’t change anything.” Lucky’s words make my heart flutter. There’s a reason why I told him first, and this just solidifies that. He’s my rock.

Lucky has no problem telling me when I’m in the wrong, but he always has my back. I never have to question where his loyalty lies. He’s team Angel ’til the day we die.

“For you.” Gabe’s eyes narrow on him. “For you it doesn’t change anything. What about the rest of them? Do they even know she’s pregnant?”

Lucky’s face drops as he shakes his head.

“So if the baby is mine, then what? We all live together as one big happy family?” Gabe laughs as if the thought alone is ridiculous. Maybe he’s right. I have no idea how any of this would work if the baby is his.

“There’s a lot of bad blood between us. There’s no denying it, but I think everyone can agree to put Angel and the baby first, andifthe baby is yours then we all deal with it the best we can.” Lucky tries easing some of his worries.

“Not good enough,” Gabe responds.

“What?” Lucky and I both look at him like he’s lost his damn mind.

“How’s that not good enough?” I chime in.

Gabe starts pacing the room as a wave of anxiety hits me.

“King still needs to be dealt with, and Royal killed my brother. The tension between the clubs is at a halt for now, but who knows how long that’ll last. The Reapers have a lot of ol’-timers who did me dirty. I may trust Cruz, but that’s as far as it goes. The rest of ’em can burn in hell.”

“So what’s your solution?” Lucky says, frustration written all over his face.

Gabe stops pacing and looks at me, his eyes full of doubt and unanswered questions. “If the baby is mine, I’ll be in Angel’s life and the baby’s. Forever.”

Lucky rolls his eyes. “I get that.”

“Do you really?” Gabe looks between me and Lucky. “I don’t think you fully comprehend what I’m saying. I’ll be there…every moment of every day. I won’t miss out on my child’s life.” His gaze lands on me, sending a shudder down my spine. “The connection she and I have is undeniable. Meaning, regardless of your situation, things are bound to play out between us if we’re together that often.”

Okay, this is all too much. I’m not ready for this. Once I tell the guys, we can figure out how to handle things from there.

“I said I getit.”Lucky grinds out.

“Prove it.”
