Gabriel clears his throat and I roll my eyes. I really am doing my best not to walk over and give him a matching black eye.

“I know what Angel wants, and that doesn’t have to change as long as she’s safe and the baby’s protected.”

“Thanks asshole, but no one asked you,” I snarl.

He moves off the wall, and before I realize what’s happening, he’s in my face with his hand around my throat. The guys jump into action, but Gabe quickly pulls his gun, aiming it at them and making them freeze. “Sit the fuck down,” he yells as his grip tightens around my neck.

Angel gasps, squeezing her eyes shut as she throws a hand over her mouth.

“I let your boys have a shot at me because they needed it. Butyou, now you’re a different story. See, you got that James blood running through those veins,” he seethes, putting pressure against my throat. I fight back the urge to gasp for air.

“You killed my brother, and the only reason I allow you to continue to walk this earth is because of her. Do you understand that?” He grips my neck tighter then releases me as I cough, sucking in as much air as I can.

“What the fuck, Gabe! You can’t just pull a gun on them whenever you feel like it,” Angel shouts, burying her head in her hands.

“Sorry, sweetheart. Now that the air has been cleared, it won’t happen again.” The asshole smirks as he moves back to his spot against the wall.

Angel looks up, gazing at each of us with a long sigh. “This was never going to work, was it? It was just wishful fucking thinking. Gah, I’m so stupid.”

Dante grumbles something under his breath and stands up, knocking the chair into the wall behind him. “This is going to work because we love each other.” He looks around, shaking his head. “We may fight and argue, but at the end of the day, it’s us—all of us— until the end.”

Gabriel raises his brow at him. “And in his own fucked-up way, he cares about you more than I’ve seen him care about anyone other than my mom. I don’t get it, and honestly, I don’t wanna get it, but it’s God’s honest, awful fucking truth.”

Dante’s eyes fall shut, he swallows hard before opening them again. “So whether the baby is his, or Royal’s, or Lucky’s, we’re going to love the shit out of it because it’s yours, Heaven.”

Jax leans over the back of her, dropping a kiss to her forehead. “He’s right. We’ll do this together. No matter what.”

Lucky nods silently as my gaze falls to Gabriel. “Do I have to worry about you slitting my throat in my sleep or can we do this?”

The fucker laughs, like a doubled-over belly laugh, then he looks straight at me. “If the day comes that I ever decide to kill you, I’ll look you in the eyes while I do it, kid.”

I roll my eyes and shrug. “I guess that’s as good as it’s going to get then. We all agree.” Everyone nods. “Then it’s settled. Angel and the baby come first. The rest of this bullshit we’ll figure out together.”

Angel bursts into tears as Jax wraps her in his arms.

Chapter seventeen

Angel

My heart flutters with joy. Unwrapping myself from Jax’s embrace, I walk over to Dante and throw my arms around him, squeezing him tightly.

“You have no idea how much this means to me, D,” I say, nuzzling my head into his chest. He places his hand under my chin, forcing me to look him in the eyes. As he smiles, there’s a light that wasn’t there before. Hope, maybe.

“I love you, Heaven. And I’m going to be the best father to this baby,” he says, capturing my lips. He deepens the kiss as I push up on my toes, tossing my arms around his neck. His hands slide down my body, igniting my skin. When he reaches my ass, he grabs two handfuls and pulls me into him.

I almost forget people are watching until someone coughs and the room bursts into laughter.

Placing a hand on his chest, I pull back, gazing into his eyes. “I don’t know what to say except I don’t deserve any of you.”

I’m floored that Dante was the one to ease my fears. If anything, I thought he’d be the one to walk away first. But that wasn’t the case. He stepped up in a way I never thought would be possible.

“Thank you, D. Thank you all. This is going to be one lucky baby. No pun intended.” I start to laugh, wiping away my tears.

“We just want you to be happy, but there can’t be any more lies, Trouble,” Jax lowers his voice.

I nod. “I promise. Never again.” I’m being honest. This will never work if we can’t trust one another. It’s taken a lifetime to get here, but as I look around the room, I realize just how lucky I am.

The five men standing before me would lay down their lives for me. They bring me so much joy and happiness. My life wouldn’t be complete without them.
