“Do you want me to stay for the meeting? I can take notes, and record them if you want. I can handle all the logistical stuff, sharing documents and notes, whatever you need.”

I’d calmed down after the elevator incident, happy she was willing to go above and beyond. “Not right now, I’m extremely bored. Sitting around is not something I do too well, but this snowstorm is making it impossible for me to do anything but that. I need to keep as busy as possible or I’m going to lose my mind. If you think you’ve seen the worst of me, you haven’t. Let me sit idle for too long — idle and bored — and you’ll regret it.”

She was staring at me, her eyes big as saucers, her lips slightly parted. “Okay. I understand. I have to stay busy too. I guess that’s why I’m so eager to help. If I sit too idle for too long, I start acting up and getting into trouble.”

It felt good to relax again. I smiled at her. “Thank God, you mean you’re human. I was starting to wonder if you were Little Miss Perfect. I have to wonder what kind of trouble you might be talking about.”

“Well, that’s for me to know and you to never find out. I guess if you don’t need me, I’m going to go use the pool. You should come down when you get done. It's the perfect pastime after work, great for exercise and fitness. Plus, I peeked in the pool room and the water looked divine.”

I watched her go, missing her the moment she turned the corner. The woman had a way of getting under my skin. The meeting was short and sweet, under an hour. Gwen wasn’t back and my curiosity got the best of me.

Quickly, I grabbed my bathing suit and headed for the indoor pool. As I rounded the corner, I got a glimpse of someone diving off the diving board into the deep end of the pool. When her head came up, it was Gwen.

“Oh hey, I guess your meeting is over?” She wiped the water from her face and pushed her wet hair back.

“Yeah, I wanted to see what you're up to.” I dove into the pool and swam in its expanse until I got a hold of her leg.

Slowly, I pulled both her legs to me and slid my hands quickly up to the sweet spot between her legs. She pulled away before I got to play, so I came up for air.

“Stop that.” She was neither annoyed nor thrilled as she put some distance between us. “How did the meeting go?”

“It went well. Sales are up and I might need to add another location in South America. In a few months, I’ll have to take a trip there. Martie will have to come so we can plan for expansion.”

My thoughts went to Martie at the mention of her name. I hadn’t heard from her since the conference call Gwen made on her phone. I heard she was sick, buthowsick was anyone’s guess?

If it weren't for the entertaining little diva beside me, I would still be mad at her. Thankfully, I had a beautiful redhead to keep me company.

“What do you say we get naked?”

I didn't miss the eye roll.

Chapter Six

Gwen

Iignoredhim.“It'sstill snowing out.

It had stopped, then started again.

“It looks like this is going to be a lot longer than we thought.”

He was in hot pursuit. Somehow, he’d managed to corner me in the deep end of the water, and the only way to get away was to swim past him or hoist myself up onto the deck. He smiled as he slowly moved closer until we were a few feet apart.

“Come on, it will be fun. No one is here, and we can get naked, swim around a bit, and then get out. After that, maybe we can find something else to do.”

He was starting to grate on my nerves, and I regretted taking this temporary position. I wanted to write my novel, I wanted to go home to Connecticut, and here I was, stuck in New York with this off-beat, moody billionaire businessman, playing.

“You act like we're a married couple, or a couple, period. I have to admit, it’s shocking since you don’t give off that vibe, but we're here to do business.”

His smile faded, and for a moment, I felt like I’d done something wrong when he dove under the water and put a bit of distance between us.

“Yeah, well, it’s not like there is anything else to do. We’re stuck in this beautiful place for couples, snowed in with no sign of it stopping. There's' only so much we can do here regarding business. All my plans have been put on hold, and I don’t operate well in those situations. I need action, movement, flow, and work to keep me out of trouble. If not, I find my own trouble I guess.”

He swam away then, and I felt bad. Whether he was laying a guilt trip or dead serious, I knew he was right. If we were going to get through this, we both had to relax and do the best we could. Not as bashful as he thought, I glanced at the only entrance to the pool room.

No one was in the pool room, there was no glass for anyone to see what I was doing, and things seemed pretty quiet. Satisfied with that, I tore off my floral bikini and swam toward him.

James had his back turned, so I dove beneath the water and headed straight for his legs like he’d done to me not long ago. When I got a hold of him, I pulled his bathing suit off and swam away to the other side of the pool.
