He turned his attention back to Kieran, nudging him again. This time, Kieran stirred, his eyes fluttering open. “Rayne?” he groaned.

“Yeah, it’s me. We need to get out of here.”

“Not so fast.” The massive wolf shifter crossed his arms. “Fayez is going to have your head for killing Milton.”

Kieran slowly pushed to his feet, wrapping an arm around his side. He swayed slightly but, thankfully, stayed upright.

“The prick got what he deserved,” Rayne said.

“Be that as it may, you still have to answer to Fayez.”

Rayne backed up then shoved the front door open. Cyrus stepped inside, scanning the room. “What’re we dealing with, boss?”

“Help Kieran to the car,” Rayne said, never taking his eyes off the bouncer. “We’re leaving.”

“This isn’t going to end well,” the bouncer said. “Go ahead and leave, but be warned, Fayez is coming for you.”

Rayne backed up until he was in the entryway. Then he turned and walked out into the sunshine, looking around to make sure there was no more trouble. He slipped into the driver’s seat and headed away from the club.

“How badly are you hurt?” he asked.

“That bouncer had fists made of granite,” Kieran groaned. “I think he broke a few ribs because I’m finding it hard to breathe.”

“How do wolf shifters heal?” Felix asked softly from the passenger’s seat. Rayne turned to meet his gaze, and something stirred within him at the sight of the human before him. His heart fluttered, and those strange—but undeniably sweet—emotions he’d been feeling toward Felix suddenly burst forth. All Rayne wanted to do was reach out and caress Felix’s face.

His wolf snarled for just one kiss, and Rayne was in full agreement.

“Don’t,” Kieran warned. “He doesn’t need to know all our secrets.”

“I trust him,” Cyrus said. “Felix is a part of this team now. I don’t want him to be in the dark.”

Kieran relaxed back against the seat, his eyes drifting closed as Cyrus spoke. “Wolves heal quickly, but if the injuries are bad enough, it takes longer.”

“What happened?” Rayne asked, his lips pressed together tightly. He wanted to go back to that club and kill everyone inside.

“I went through the front to see what was taking Cyrus so long, and something hard struck my head.” He paused to let out a heavy sigh when his breath hitched in his chest. “When I woke up, the bouncer was beating the shit out of me.”

Felix turned to Kieran and asked, “Did you manage to land a hit?” His voice was soft like velvet, his gaze tender and inviting. Rayne gripped the steering wheel harder, forcing his hands to stay where they were. He liked that Felix was concerned for one of his pack members. He could scent the genuine worry, and that touched him.

Kieran nodded. “I got up and fought like hell, but like I said, his fists are like granite. He dropped me and knocked me out again. You saw the guy. He was fucking huge.”

Milton had set them up, and Rayne was glad he’d killed the guy. Milton deserved what he got. Now Rayne was going to have to face Fayez. He wasn’t worried. If the vampire wanted a fight, Rayne would give him one.

Chapter Five

The sun had set, and the sky was dark with a smattering of stars overhead. The moon was still low on the horizon, but it would rise soon and chase away the darkness.

Rayne inhaled deeply, taking in the night air. It was a full moon, and he was waiting for trouble to show. He glanced across from him and saw the twins, Logan and Cable. Rayne grinned at them then looked over to where Talon and Beast stood.

He’d gotten a call, a heads-up that Fayez was coming for him. Rayne had secured Felix in the house and was now in the backyard, waiting for the vampire to arrive. But Rayne knew Fayez wouldn’t come alone.

That was why Rayne’s pack was outside with him.

But Rayne’s thoughts drifted to Felix. He couldn’t help but think about the way Felix had looked at him earlier. The way the human had cared for Kieran and asked about his injuries. Rayne had never felt so drawn to anyone before. Something about Felix stirred a deep yearning inside of him.

“What’s on your mind?” Logan asked, breaking Rayne out of his thoughts.

He shook his head. “Just thinking.”
