If I wasn’t relying on him to get me down and we weren’t up so high, I’d strongly contemplate punching him.

I hear Jamison laughing and Regg smirks and rolls his eyes. I’m lowered slowly down and once my feet touch the ground, Danny detaches the hooks from me and the sling is sent back up with Regg. Bo wraps a warm blanket around me, and I watch as Jamison is lowered.

As happy as I am when we’re off of that lift, it’s strange to get on the back of Danny’s jet ski while Jamison gets on the back of Bo’s. We just endured something traumatic together and it doesn’t feel right to just go our separate ways once it’s over. Danny drops me off at my condo, lingering like he wants to come in. I’m sure Bo did the same for Jamison.

“I’m really sorry I didn’t come looking when you guys didn’t come back within the hour,” he says again.

“It’s okay. Just glad you came when you did.”

He starts to say something else but stops when I lift my hand in a wave.

“I’m going to take the longest, hottest shower I can stand.”

He nods, his smile still apologetic. “Let me know if you need anything, Scarlett,” he says.

I nod and hurry inside, groaning when I remember my phone and the dogs are at Sutton’s. I send him a quick message from my laptop, telling him what happened, and he says he’ll bring them over in an hour or so.

Half an hour and a hot shower and my warmest pajamas later, that time out in the cold with Jamison doesn’t seem so bad.

Not so bad at all.

CHAPTERTWENTY

LOVE CONNECTION

JAMISON

Since our crazy experience on the ski lift a few days ago, things have been much better between Scarlett and me.

I’ve still been keeping my distance, which has taken willpower I didn’t know I had after what we went through together. But I’ve been busier than ever myself, getting ready for today.

Zac, Autumn, and Ivy are coming, and so is Pappy. They’re also bringing Magnus, their favorite contractor, and I’ve been talking to Lar’s cousin, Steve, a local contractor whose work I love. Both Magnus and Steve say they like the idea of working together on a project of this size, so we’ll see how it goes once they meet in person.

My parents have a wedding and an anniversary party to attend this weekend, so they’ll be coming in a couple of weeks instead, but I wanted to get things moving forward with hotel plans and need Zac and Autumn here to do that. And I’ve missed my niece so bad I can hardly stand it.

They flew into Denver a little bit ago and I arranged for a helicopter to bring them the rest of the way. I would’ve given anything to have seen Ivy taking in that view, but there wasn’t room for all of us. George, one of our charter pilots, said he would make sure everyone got to the lodge too. He’s been a fan of Zac’s since college days and I trust him—he’s not scary fan material—so I agreed to it.

I’ve been looping around the lobby for the past half hour, excited for them to arrive.

“Are they here yet?” Vera asks, rushing in with one of the arrangements from Lorena’s shop. “I want to go put this in their condo really quick before they get here.”

“I haven’t seen them. I think there’s time.” I laugh when she takes off jogging.

Now that I take a good look around, there are more people than usual hanging around the lobby today. I purposely told Zac to come on a day and time when it would be quieter because I didn’t want him to be bombarded with fans. Looks like word has gotten out. It’s like ninety percent of our staff, some who I would’ve sworn aren’t even working today, have suddenly decided to congregate in the lobby at eleven on a Sunday morning.

Scarlett walks through the front door, the dogs on leashes next to her, looking like a movie star in her white yoga pants and fitted white ski jacket. Her hair is in a high ponytail and swishes across her chest, a dark splash against the white. I’m all about her short skirts and sexy blouses and the black pants that make her legs look a mile long, but I nearly lose my mind when she turns around and I see the back view of her in those white yoga pants.

Fuck me.

I try to school my face into nothingness and call my dick back into submission, but he’s not going down without a fight.

Scarlett walks toward the offices and disappears for a few minutes and I hope for that old adage,Out of sight, out of mind, but no go. She’s back in no time, without the dogs this time. And dammit, I was so dazed by her, I missed a chance to pet them.

It’s weird how much I miss them.

And her.

She pauses when she sees Olivia from the gift shop and that bastard from ski rentals, Regg, who tried to pawn off his CBD oil…and okay, the guy who also got us off of the ski lift…
