Thank you! You’re saving me. XO

Nothing from Jamison.

I go back and forth between understanding that he’s busy with his family and obsessively wishing I’d hear from him more often.

Ihatebeing this girl.

“Okay, I’ll go look for Magnus with you…but I can’t stay out late.”

“Yay, I’ll text April and see if she’s still free or if she gave up on us.”

Within the next twenty minutes, we’ve looked in the windows of The Pink Ski and done a thorough inside sweep of The Gnarly Vine, when we hear back from April.

“She’s at The Dancing Emu,” I tell Holly. “I hope Magnus is there because I could go for some food now.”

“Sorry,” she says, putting her arm around my shoulder. “I get you out to feed you and end up taking you on a hunt for Viking man meat.”

I wrinkle my nose, unsure if that sounds hot or disgusting. He is a good-looking guy, but I can’t seem to see past Jamison Ledger. I check my phone one more time to see if he’s texted.

“Any word on when Jamison will be back?” Holly asks.

“Nope. No word.”

“Sorry, Scar. That sucks.”

The Dancing Emu is packed, an awful singer belting “I Will Always Love You” and people slow dancing to the right of the stage. There’s not really a dance floor there, but sometimes Pierre clears a few tables out if the crowd wants to move.

April sees us and waves, hurrying toward us.

Holly reaches out and clamps her hand around my arm. “He’s here.”

I look for Magnus and sure enough, he’s at the bar, and his eyes are locked on Holly’s.

“Holy hot staredown,” April says, looking between Holly and Magnus.

“You should have seen them after you left my office,” I tell her. “They did this for at LEAST another half hour. Maybe an hour. I had to leave and they still hadn’t spoken to each other.”

April shoots wide eyes my way.

“I know.” I shrug.

“Let’s go talk to him,” April says, grabbing both of our wrists.

I feel a hand on my upper back and turn, seeing Danny there. “Hey, Danny, how are you?” I have to yell it because the singing is so loud.

“I heard Ledger’s gone back to Boston,” he says.

He doesn’t seem as angry as he did when he quit, but he doesn’t look happy either.

“Yeah, he had a family emergency and had to go back.”

Holly and April watch and wait while Danny and I are awkward with each other. Bo stumbles up to us, slurping a beer and maybe on number three or four, judging from the way he’s hyped up. He pops up between me and Holly, so I’m sandwiched between him and Danny, and he does a screenshot from his phone of all of us.

“Wooo, we’re out on the town tonight,” Bo yells. “We don’t do this often enough. This beats getting stuck on a ski lift, doesn’t it, Scarlett?” He cracks up and I join in just as he goes snap happy with his phone.

“Can I talk to you for a few minutes?” Danny asks.

I glance at Holly and April, and Holly points toward the bar. “I’ll go get drinks for us before we do anything else.”
