“Let’s not talk about this right now. We had the best night,” she says, her lips lifting.

“Yes, we did.” I grin and some of the tension in her forehead smooths out. “But we can talk about whatever you’re thinking. Do you need a day away from the stables? We don’t have to think about the stuff in the house right now. Maybe I can be with you when you decide to do that. If it helps.”

She nods again, her shoulders deflating for a moment. She walks over and I snag her by the waist, pulling her back into bed with me.

“If I ever let you out of bed,” I say, kissing her neck.

She laughs and tries to wiggle her way out, but not hard enough.

When she leans her head against my chest, her pale blue eyes shining bright, I feel like my heart will explode.

“Last night was the best night of my life, Theo. Being with you, feeling like we’ve been given another chance with no one standing in our way…I just can’t believe it.” She kisses my chest and I wrap my hand through her hair, unable to take my eyes off of her. “And that’s all I want to think about this morning.”

She presses another kiss to my chest and then hops up, taking me by surprise as she walks back into the bathroom. I hear the shower turning on and want nothing more than to join her, but Fred is also demanding my attention.

I find my briefs and walk into the kitchen, getting Fred’s food ready and starting the coffee. When I walk back into the bedroom, she’s already out of the shower and I make a face when I see her putting her clothes on.

“You were too fast,” I pout.

She laughs. “I knew we’d never get out of here if I didn’t hurry.”

“So, you’re going home?”

She nods.

“You know you can stay here all day if you’d like.”

“Thank you.”

“Are you really coming back here tonight?” I ask.

She pauses and turns to look at me, her voice quiet. “For as long as you want me to.”

“Every night then, okay,” I say, and she grins.

In less than an hour, we’re in my truck, driving toward her place, and I don’t know why I’m nervous to drop her off.

“Are you sure you’ll be okay here today?” I ask. “You know I can build even nicer stables at my place for your horses. You’d never have to be here again.”

She leans in and kisses me. “Maybe once my aunts decide what they’re doing. If they’re going to stay here or get another place, I’ll know what to do with the place, but for now, I’ll be okay.”

Thinking about the way she trembled and cried in her sleep, I’m not convinced, but I drop her off anyway, waving as she turns back to look at me. When she closes the barn door behind her, out of sight, the exhaustion of the night catches up with me.

CHAPTERTWENTY-FIVE

ATTENTION, EVERYONE

SOFIE

The past week with Theo has been otherworldly.

We eat, sleep, and breathe little else but each other.

My aunts go back to Colorado Springs to pack up, and besides the times I’m with my horses and he’s at work, we’re most likely having sex.

We’ve hardly come up for air, but after a week, his family is wondering if he’s okay, and I convince him that he should probably see them soon.

Not that I want to leave his bed, but as I tell him, I’m not going anywhere, so there’s plenty of time in the world to fall into bed with each other later.
