And I’m very sorry I didn’t listen to her the moment I opened the box.

Inside it is a fluffy white rabbit, a Flemish Giant, exactly the kind of rabbit I always wanted. It’s dead, its tiny eyes open but unseeing because its neck has been snapped. There’s a note too.

I knew you always wanted one of these. Here you go. You’re welcome. I always told you I would do anything for you.

I feel like throwing up again.

“That sick fucking bastard!” I yell instead. “Oh, I’m gonna get him. This poor animal . . . how dare he! How dare he!”

“Come on, let’s leave this here and call the police,” Stacey says.

I already have my phone in my hand, but it’s not the police I’m calling.

“He’s out of prison,” I tell Brennon as soon as he picks up. “The psycho stalker. And he just left a dead rabbit for me . . . a white Flemish Giant . . . you know, the one I told you I always wanted. He must’ve seen me posting about wanting one on my social media. The creep! I hate him. I hate him so much!”

“I’m coming to get you, Luna. You’re not staying there, not where that sick son of a bitch can get to you,” he says, and I can hear the white-hot anger in his voice.

I feel a flash of relief and gratitude. And love? I didn’t even have to ask him to come. He just offered. And I didn’t even know how much I needed him by my side until he did.

“Thank you,” I whisper.

“Don’t go in the house. Go somewhere safe, okay?”

“I was going to report it to the cops,” I whisper.

“Don’t bother,” he says darkly. “They fucked up at keeping you safe from him the first time. I’ll deal with him now.”

Again, he’s speaking the exact words I needed to hear.

“Brennon, he’s dangerous,” I say. “Maybe it’s best—”

He’s breathing hard like he’s running, and then I hear a car door slam shut.

“Just hold on, Luna, okay? We’ll figure this out. I won’t let anything happen to you. I’ll see you soon.”

I can hear a car starting on his end of the line just before he lets me go.

“Brennon’s coming here,” I tell Stacey.

She nods appreciatively. “Sounds like he really is a keeper. Come on, let’s go wait for him at my salon.”

She wraps her arm around my shoulders as she leads me back to her car, and I lean on her heavily. The thought of Brennon coming here soon is the only glimmering light in the gathering darkness of my worst nightmare coming true again. That and Stacey. And if I hold on to them, I will make it through this again. I know I will.

CHAPTERFIFTEEN

Sarge

The only thing I felt when Luna called and told me what happened was pure rage. How the fuck did he get out of prison so soon after what he did? The psychopath tried to take Luna’s life, and they let him go. Really? It’s just another prime example of how the criminal justice system can be tweaked in whomever’s favor it needs to be.

It’s fucking sickening if you ask me.

I’m at least glad she called me and that I have the ability to rush right out there like I’m doing right now.

Little did I know a few weeks ago that I’d be this into Luna. I thought all I was getting the night of my parents’ anniversary party was a little bit of good conversation, maybe some good ass too. Never did I expect this to be happening. I’m falling for her more and more every single day. The more I think about Luna, the more I see her being by my side for a long time to come.

She fits with me like a missing puzzle piece I wasn’t sure I’d ever find. Hell, I thought I was going to be like some of the older bikers I knew about when I first joined the club. All they did was fuck around from clubwhore to clubwhore, never getting into anything serious through the years. Ultimately, I was doing that. I’d get some ass, and that would be it. Never saw a reason for anything else. Then I saw Luna again, and we clicked. It just felt right. I’ve never had that before, and from what I can tell, not a lot of my brothers have experienced it either.
