When I stepped outside just as she was about to get in the golf cart, she sputtered, “I didn’t think anyone was here. I’m so sorry to interrupt.”

“Wait. Please, don’t leave.”

Her head was bowed, but she raised it. “I’m sorry,” she repeated. “I don’t know what happened earlier. If I said or did something—”

The peace I felt stayed with me as I approached her. “The fault is mine,” I murmured when I was close enough for her to hear me. Her eyes met mine, and I smiled. “Perhaps we should begin again.”

She nodded. “I’d like that.”

“Welcome to my ranch, Jaicon.”

“Thank you for having me, Tryst.”

“Will you join me in the meditation center?”

Her eyes scrunched. “Yes.”

I chuckled. “Are you certain?”

She looked out over the landscape, then returned her gaze to mine. “Do I really remind you of your nieces?”

I shook my head. “I have but one, and not even a little.”

She smiled. “Then, I’d love to.”

JAICON

Trystan Avila had inched his way under my skin within the first moments of meeting him. I’d never once, in my entire life, had such a reaction. Even when I first met my husband—the person I’d once believed would be the only man I ever loved.

Given my profession, my instincts were finely honed. I could pick up on suspect behavior in seconds. However, this was entirely different, leaving me unsure what to make of it.

IwantedTryst Avila. How long had it been since I’d felt that way?Three years.

When he lay flat on a yoga mat after placing a second on the floor for me, my first thought was to rest my body on top of his. After stripping us both of our clothes, of course.

When he’d mentioned the meditation center, earlier, I immediately knew it was where I wanted to go.Neededto go in order to recenter myself. Doing so now was impossible. Not with him right beside me.

I closed my eyes, attempting to calm myself. As hard as I tried to focus on my breathing, all I could hear was his. He assaulted the rest of my senses as well.

His scent was sensual, refined, and masculine. Like orris root combined with sage, jasmine, and warm sandalwood. Perhaps something else nutty, like roasted almonds.

When his hand had rested on mine, it felt soft yet calloused like that of a man who wasn’t afraid of hard work. His touch left me breathless.

Staring into his eyes, I saw so many things. Wisdom, playfulness, curiosity, and above all else—desire. His comment about looking older than his age was ridiculous. Even fully dressed, the hard outline of his toned muscles was evident. Truth be told, the entirety of the man caused my heart to pound, as if our souls had collided the very instant we met.

I longed to touch his hand that rested so close to mine it would’ve taken only the slightest movement to make it happen.

“Jaicon?”

His voice startled me, and I gulped. “Yes?”

“I can feel your thoughts.”

“Sorry,” I whispered, wishing I hadn’t and hoping he hadn’t heard. I glanced over at his grin, knowing he had.

“Don’t be. I like them.”
