Page 64 of Tryst's Temptation

As for Wren, not only was she Z’s daughter, she was considered to be one of the preeminent intelligent agents in the world, including all those who preceded her. I doubted she required any explanation from Oleander about anything.

“This must be Esencia,” said the woman I’d just been thinking about.

“It’s an honor to meet you, ma’am.”

“Oh, my goodness. If I didn’t hail from Texas, where women are called ma’am regardless of their age, I might be worried about how much gray is showin’ through.” She leaned forward. “They say you aren’t supposed to color your hair when you’re pregnant, but I can guarantee you my mama didn’t follow those orders, and my brother and I turned out just fine.”

I had no idea what to say in response, so I just stood there like a bloody carp.

“Hello, I’m Wilder,” said the man who’d grown even more ridiculously handsome since we’d first met. “Wait. I know you, don’t I?”

Wren elbowed her husband. “They say women get pregnancy brain, but I swear Wild’s got it way worse than me.”

He put his arm around her shoulders. “It’s all the sleepless nights I spend watching you grow more beautiful with every passing minute.”

I spun around on Oleander when I heard her groan.

“What? You just arrived. The rest of us have had to listen to this drivel for weeks.”

My eyes opened wide. Had she truly just insulted the greatest spy who’d ever lived right in front of her face?

“Again, it was a pleasure to meet you, Esencia. Wilder and I will leave you and O alone since all she’s been carrying on about is how much she’s looking forward to your being here.” Thankfully, Wren was smiling when she walked away.

“So, tell me all about Tryst Avila,” O began once we were alone.

“Tryst Avila?Bloody hell. What have you heard and who from?”

“That would be me,” said Zeppelin, and we cheek-kissed when he approached. “Welcome to Shere.”

I smacked his arm. “Who would’ve thought you’d be a gossip?”

“Everyone,” muttered Magnet. “How are you, Esencia? Good to see you.” We cheek-kissed as well.

“I have to admit, it’s nice to be back in the UK.”

Magnet raised a brow. “I suppose, but the ranch in Mexico certainly has its charms.”

“One charm in particular, so I’ve heard,” Oleander mumbled.

“Stop it. Tryst Avila is a very nice man who has been a tremendous help by allowing us to stage the Felixstowe victims’ reunification in the Mexican state of Sonora.” I caught a look pass between her, Zep, and Magnet but chose to pretend I didn’t. “Shall we get to work?”

“Yes, I wanted to talk to you about—”

“Nope. She’s mine. I made that abundantly clear before she arrived.” Oleander said to Zep before dragging me from the kitchen and into a solarium in another part of the house.

“This is lovely. It’s Cayman’s place, yes?”

“Yes,” she said, closing the door behind her. “So, back to Tryst. Tell me everything.”

Before I could scold her again, the door opened and Poseidon walked in. “I heard a rumor you’d arrived. Thanks for crossing the pond, Jacy.” Like with the other men, we cheek-kissed.

“We were in the middle of something,” said O, crossing her arms and tapping her foot.

Rather than leaving us to talk, Poseidon walked over to a sofa and took a seat. “Let’s get to it, then.”

I’d beenin Shere two weeks, and we’d made no progress on figuring out where the impending auction was taking place, nor had we developed any leads of where the women shown on the site were being held.

“Bloody fucking hell!”I heard Poseidon shout from another room.
