“Then what can I—” His words cut off as realization set in. “Ah. You want to fight…”

“Fuck yes, I do. I want you to fight for what you want, not lie down and let me have it. Nothing amazing is worth it if you don’t fight for it. Look at us. Don’t you see? Iwantto see you succeed just as much as I do, and as long as we’re playing fair, it doesn’t matter what the outcome is. It just matters that we’re honest with each other. That we can tell each other anything.”

“So you’re saying you trust me and I trust you…”

“Yes. That’s what I want.”

“I like those terms,” Drew said, closing the distance between us so he could reach for my hands. Even with the nerves I knew were probably riding him right then, his hands were warm and steady. Sure.

“There are gonna be times this happens again, where we may have to go head to head with each other at work.”

Drew brushed his thumbs over my knuckles in slow circles. “There will be.”

“Which means you can’t try to throw the competition to make up for something you did.”

“Nope. This was a one-time offer that proved unnecessary and has since expired.”

“I mean it, Drew. If you accidentally break my phone causing me to miss an important meeting, you still can’t punk out of a deal because of guilt.”

A puzzled expression knitted Drew’s brows. “Why am I breaking your phone?”

“It could happen. You could also forget to load the dishwasher one night and feel a ridiculous amount of remorse because you know I hate dirty plates in the sink. Still can’t let me win.”

“First of all, who has a dishwasher in Manhattan?”

“Drew…”

“All right, fair enough. Guilt over past incidents being submitted for permanent banishment. On it.”

“Good. Then I guess we have ourselves a deal.”

Drew cocked a brow. “A deal? That’s romantic.”

“What would you rather call it?”

“Hmm.” Drew’s lips curled into a mischievous grin as he moved in close, pressing his body up against mine. “A pact doesn’t sound any better. A commitment? A promise?”

His gaze dropped to my mouth, sending a surge of warmth through my body and straight to my cock.

“I think I can handle any of those.”

“What about this?” Drew moved his hands down to my ass, holding me tight against him so that I could feel his barely contained erection.

“I’ll take great pleasure in handling every inch of you, don’t you worry about that.”

Drew smiled against my lips. “And this? Romantic gestures. Think you can handle those?”

“I’m more than willing to try. How did you even do this?”

“Apparently Viper’s killer event planner Paige can pull off the impossible in about five minutes flat.” He skimmed his mouth against mine softly. “You like it?”

“I love it.” I pulled my head back to look at him and added, “I loveyou.”

Drew’s eyes practically twinkled. “I knew it.”

“Oh, you did, huh? I’m surprised you didn’t call me out.”

“Nah, I was biding my time. Hoping you’d come around again.”
