"Who's never in the mood for fun, Sophie?"

"Obviously me."

"Is something wrong, boo?" Her expression changed and her voice became softer.

I couldn't help it, seeing her obvious concern for me, I burst into tears.

"Alright, let it out. Don't hold back." She patted my back, offering me tissues until I'd almost exhausted half a pack.

"C’mon, baby. Tears are great for the mind. Cry it all out, sweetie."

Eventually after a few minutes, I stopped.

"Okay," she said, looking at me anxiously.

"Do you feel better?" I nodded limply.

"Alright, start talking."

I sighed. Then proceeded to tell her how it all began, where the issues crept in, and where we both stood currently. By the time I ended my story, I was sniffing again and she was quiet. Too quiet.

She sighed, draping a hand over my shoulder, patting my head absentmindedly. "And you have no idea how to reach him in the city?"

"I don't. I really don't know how to reach him if I got to the city now. I know it’s pretty embarrassing for someone that I'd been intimate with for almost a month, but there was no need to because Malibu is such a small place, and it's always been easy to locate him."

"Shhhh, it's okay. It will work itself out. Do you believe him?"

"What?" I blurted out, confused.

"Do you believe what he said that he would never hurt you deliberately and would rather die than do that?" she asked insistently searching my eyes.

"I know I sound like a hopeless romantic right now, but I actually do. He'd said it that day with such fervency and devotion that I was almost moved to change my mind. I should have. Maybe he would have still been with me now."

"I've never known you as one who accepts defeat easily, why are you adopting this defeatist tone, Sophie?" She queried with a frown.

"There is nothing else to do, Kaitlyn. I pushed him away. I should have trusted him."

"Can you just stop!" She fixed a steely glare on me.

"He messed up, you misjudged it, and now he's disappeared. But it is not like he's gone under a rock. No matter how long it takes, he will definitely come back to Malibu. His heart is here." She pointed a finger to my chest not losing her steely glare. “You wouldn't want him to meet you like this when he comes back, do you?"

"No, I don't." I let out a watery smile.

"Good! So go upstairs, get some clothes on and let's go out and have some fun." She finished and pinched my cheeks lovingly. "Don't forget to put on some make-up," she called after me as I turned to walk up the stairs.

"Kaitlyn," I called with a small voice when I got to the top of the stairs.

"Yes, babe?"

"Do you think he is angry with me?"

"Confused, I think. Angry with you? Er. I'm not sure why you'd assume the worst about him considering all you just told me."

"I'm an idiot."

"No, you're just in love."

"Same thing.” I peered down at her.
