Madison’s heart raced as she cradled her aching wrist, the weight of his words sinking in.

The deafening roar of helicopter blades grew louder, filling the air with an ominous intensity. Damian’s grip tightened around Madison’s hair as he forced her up to her feet. “Time to go.”

They are on the roof, the helicopter landed with a hard thud. A bounce that definitely did damage to both the building and the chopper.

Madison took a double take. This was Mark’s helicopter.

The pilot rushed out and removed his head-gear. Disheveled with his hair tousled beneath the swirling helicopter blades, Madison’s heart squeezed.

It was AJ.What on earth?

“You said you’d let her go!” AJ shouted over the sound of the slowing blades.

AJ was just a boy. A boy who stole a helicopter.

Madison plead with Damian, the desperation cracking her voice. “Please, Damian. You can’t do this.”

Damian’s laughter echoed in the tense air, his expression twisted and taunting. “Watch me.” Roughly, Madison was shoved in the back seat, her heart racing out of her chest.

Damian pointed the gun at AJ, his voice commanding. “Get going!”

AJ stood his ground, refusing to budge. “Not until you release her,” he hollered, his eyes blazing with defiance.

Damian’s arm flew up—a backhand to AJ’s face. “Move!”

Undaunted, AJ stood defiant, chin to the sky. “No.”

Madison reached for AJ, both hands wrapping his arm. “I’m staying,” she assured him, her resolve evident.

She settled into her seat and swiftly fastened her seatbelt, urging AJ to comply. Damian was deadly.

He already shot Stassi. I can’t lose AJ, too.

AJ—the epitome of Stone’s willpower and that Drakezero fucks givenattitude—crossed his arms. “I’m not flying.”

Fear and pride swirled in Madison’s gut. She didn’t know if she wanted to hug him or flick him on the forehead.

An inner maternal voice screamed, “Both!”

In a rage, Damian grabbed AJ by the shirt and threw him into the seat next to Madison. “Consider yourself lucky that you’re still valuable to me,” he sneered. “But you won’t be for long.”

He removed a zip tie, binding Madison’s wrist to the seat.

He left AJ unbound. Maybe because he was out of zip ties. More likely because he knew AJ would never leave her side.

His face was an inch from AJ’s. “The next outburst from you, and I shoot her.” Damian slid to the pilot’s seat, a gun still trained on Madison’s belly. “Right in the gut,” he warned before assuming the control.

As the helicopter soared higher, Madison caught a figure from the corner of her eyes. Her gaze dropped to the rooftop below, her heart catching in her throat.

She gasped as Alex emerged on the rooftop—two seconds too late. The helicopter’s ascended, separating them further apart.

She pressed her palm against the window, frowning. The distance between them grew. Was this goodbye?

“I love you,” she mouthed, blinking back the tears.

She could only read his lips. “Madison.” Then, “I’ll find you.”

Will you find us in time?
