“We were busy, that’s for sure. You more than me,” he says. “I’m not the one who has to perform just about every night.”

“Well, you did have to perform, mister, just not the kind one does onstage.”

“Are you saying I’m in the wrong business?” he asks, chuckling as he pulls me in his arms. “But you’re right. You were hornier than usual and that’s why we ended up sleeping in hotel rooms more instead of the bus. Not that you’ll hear any complaints from me.”

I feel my face flushing at his words. “Anyway, it was Alma who clued me in last night when she said I had this certain glow about me and that’s when I realized it wasn’t motion sickness or bloating,” I say. “She dropped off the pregnancy tests this morning so I could be sure.”

“And now you’re sure.”

“Weare sure. You and me,” I whisper as Todd leans in and kisses me passionately, his lips warm and soft against mine. I kiss him back, feeling a sense of completeness I’ve never felt before. Even if I’ve always told myself that all I wanted was success on my own, Todd’s the one I’ve really needed—and now a family of our own.

“I can’t believe this is all happening at the same time,” I whisper, tears blurring my vision. “Our song sitting at the top of the charts and this.”

“As much as being on top of the charts is great news, I’m with you when you saythis,” Todd rests his large hand over my belly, “is even better news. It’s the best news.”

Suddenly he pulls away, reaching for his bedside table. “Which reminds me, I know you wanted to prove to the world that you could be a solo performer on your own—which you already were, as far as I was concerned—but I’d like to think we can do this other part together.”

The other part is a velvet box that he pulls from the bedside drawer before sliding out of bed and getting down on one knee, his cerulean eyes locked on mine. “Devyn Rosario, I love you more than anything in the world and I want to spend the rest of my life with you,” he says, opening the box to reveal a small diamond ring. “Will you marry me?”

As tears stream down my face, I know my answer this time is far from the one I gave Todd when he first proposed to me two years earlier. I’d wanted so much to prove to myself—and not-so-secretly to Harrison—that I had what it took to be a solo performer that nothing, not even a marriage proposal from the man I loved, could stop me from achieving it.

But at this moment, all that’s irrelevant now. I’ve seen my dream come true many times over, from the crowds that sell out every venue to the current sales and streaming numbers that has Chloe still updating me every half hour. But there’s the other dream, the one I’ve kept secret inside my heart that’s come true, too. It’s being with a man who loves me unconditionally, who would do anything for me just as I would do the same for him. It’s a love that I had stopped believing existed when I found success the first time with Harrison, making me believe that maybe it’s just the price one paid for success and in the end, I walked away and left everything behind.

I’d given up.

Only Todd never did. Through the years, he believed in me even when I was with someone else.

And he still does.

This time, we get to live the rest of our lives together.

I just need to make things official.

“Yes, Mr. Villier,” I whisper, happy tears streaming down my face as Todd slides the ring onto my finger. “My answer is yes.”
