“Aydin’s ex… Simge.” The venom falls from her tongue as she waves her mobile in my direction. “That bloody awful ex-wife of Aydin’s up and got married just to take the focus offourwedding today!”

Olive giggles and peers at the screen. “Good riddance to her. Total bitch!”

“Absolutely.” Ginny snorts and sips on champagne while the makeup artist works on her face. “You know, Simge wouldn’t even allow Aydin’s daughter attend the wedding!”

“That’s awful.”

“Yes, yes, Simge is a bitch! Tell us something we don’t already know.” Leyla scowls at me as she runs across the room in her bra and a G-string. She starts undressing me before I even have a chance to object. “About time you made an appearance. I swear Meg, if your measurements are wrong, I will… I will…ugh.”

“Calm down, Leyla. I’m here!”

She openly scrutinizes me before unzipping a dress bag. “It’s going to be fine. It’s all going to be fine.”

As bridesmaids, we are all wearing Leyla Soydan originals. Each dress is unique but all with the same dusky-rose-coloured chiffon and georgette silk. Olive’s dress is sleek with a flattering square neckline and straps. Mine has a cowl neckline, high skirt slit and an A-line silhouette while Leyla is wearing a strapless dress with sexy bodice seaming. After dressing we stand together in front of the mirror in awe. “These are simply beautiful, Leyla. You’re so talented.”

Leyla lets out a breath of relief and stands back to admire her work. “I have outdone myself.” Satisfied with how we look, she smiles before clicking her fingers at the women around her. “Hair! Makeup! Go!”

Both Olive and I race over to the chairs while Leyla helps Ginny shimmy into her dress.

Hair and makeup don’t take long, and Olive and I sip daintily on champagne waiting for the bride. “Get ready to start humming, ‘Here comes the bride’!”

Excitement bubbles inside me as we start to hum the familiar tune of the wedding march. Ginny’s contagious grin grows even wider as she steps back into the room, and my heart skips a beat at the sight of her in her stunning dress. The trumpet silhouette hugs her curves in all the right places, and the delicate embellished lace design adds an elegant touch to the gown. The overskirt adds a touch of glamour, and the double-beaded band accentuates her waist, making her look even more stunning.

I wave my hands in front of my eyes to keep from tearing up and ruining my makeup. “Oh, Ginny. You’re absolutely breathtaking!”

Ginny’s smile widens even more, and she twirls around, causing her dress to sway gracefully. “Do you really think so?”

I nod my head vigorously, unable to find the words to express just how beautiful she looks. Olive and Leyla chime in and Ginny’s face lights up with happiness.

“Are you ready?” Olive asks.

“Wait! I’ve got a little surprise for the three of you.” She kicks up her sky-high white pumps and I can see writing on the bottom. I lean in closer to inspect. On the sole of her shoe is a list of names, including mine! “What’s this?”

“It’s one of those quirky Turkish traditions. I thought it might be fun.” Ginny bursts into laughter. “I wrote the names of all my single friends on the bottom of the shoe. Whoever’s name is the first to be unreadable will be the next to get married.”

Leyla squeals and points to her name. “I hope you wrote mine in pencil!”

Olive and I exchange amused glances at the unusual Turkish tradition as we follow Ginny out the door. “Well, I guess we better start scuffing up those names, ladies,” I say with a grin, tapping my own high heels together.

As we walk down the stairs, I can hear the distant sound of music and excited chatter outside. Ginny takes a deep breath. “This is it.”

There isn’t a dry eye in the house when Ginny and Aydin tie the knot. The ceremony is in Turkish, but then in a twist, and with much hilarity, Ginny’s dad, Gary, whips out a document that he obtained online allowing him to officiate the wedding again in English.

Gary steps up to the podium and clears his throat. We all turn our attention to him, eager to see what he has to say.

“Dear friends and family,” he begins in a deep, melodramatic voice, causing us to stifle our giggles. “We are gathered here today to witness the union of my baby girl, the light of my life, my daughter, Ginger, and Aydin, in holy matrimony.”

Olive leans over and whispers in my ear. “Oh boy, Uncle Gary is really taking this seriously, isn’t he?”

I nod, barely able to contain my laughter.

Gary continues, “Do you, Aydin, take my precious angel, Ginger, to be your lawfully wedded wife? And before you answer that I just want to say that if you say no, I will hunt you down and give you a good kicking.”

His threatening tone is too much to handle, and I’m not the only one struggling to contain my laughter as Gary glowers at Aydin menacingly before slapping him on the back. “Seriously though son, do you, take Ginger to be your wedded wife?”

Aydin quickly nods, “I really do… and not solely because I’m afraid you’d follow through with your threat, Gary.”

Gary laughs before turning his menacing glower to his daughter. “And do you, my beloved Ginger, take Aydin to be your wedded husband?”
