“Are you sure that’s all it is?”

“Of course.”

I slide back onto the bed and put the tray down. “Why are you running off so soon, then?”

“I’m not running, baby girl. I’ll take a shower, then I have to meet him at the casino with Marco to discuss business.”

He leans over to kiss me. “That coffee smells good.”

I smile up at him, knowing that he’s deflecting.

“Please eat something before you go.”

“You’re coming with me, aren’t you? Do you have stuff to do at the casino?”

“I can’t drive myself?”

He gives me a withering look. “What do you think?”

“Wrapping me up in cotton wool isn’t the most logical answer. I can still go to work.”

“You can, with me.”

He sounds just like Angelo, and I know there’s no point arguing with him.

“I’ll get ready,” I concede. I take a piece of toast as I pick up my coffee and sit back, resting against his headboard. “You sure we don’t have time for a quickie?”

He eyes me, reaching for his coffee and grins. “I can get behind that, baby, in the shower. Two birds, one stone kinda deal.”

I laugh and roll my eyes. “Typical, but I’ll take it.”

He sits back down on the edge of the bed for a moment and takes a sip, closing his eyes to savor the taste. “You make fucking good coffee,” he mutters into his cup.

“I’m pretty good at most things,” I say, waggling my eyebrows.

“Yes, you are.”

He is playful and smiling, but it doesn’t reach his eyes. That tells me that something is going down. I know enough by now to understand that pressing him on these issues won’t solve anything. In fact, it seems to make him more determined to keep it from me.

After we shower/fuck and get ready to go into the casino, I ask him casually about it when he escorts me out to his car.

“E, if there was something bad going on, you’d tell me, right?”

He starts up the engine, revving loudly, giving it an extra throttle that I’m not sure is needed. “You want me to say ‘of course,’ don’t you, baby?”

I smile, biting my lip.

“If we were in dire straits, then yes, I’d tell you, but we’re not. So, unless I tell you to worry, you needn't worry, okay?”

“Whatever you say,” I sigh, resting back into the plush seat while he takes off.

I text Bianca to let her know I’m on my way. She doesn’t reply straight away, and I’m starting to think she’s enjoying the facilities a little too much. She says she’s already hit the gym and had a swim in the heated pool before she got ready for work. I face palm myself. I wish I could be that motivated on a morning.

When we pull up, we head straight into the casino building, walking toward Marco’s office and the staff kitchen so we can make more coffee.

Marco is already there, pacing up and down, which is pretty much what he does most of the time.

“Hey, Bro,” I joke as I walk in.
