“Toby’s a schmuck. He let you go,” Bianca dutifully reminds me. “I wouldn’t waste five seconds of my time on him, now that you’ve got Enzo to yourself all weekend.”

“Yeah, as my chaperone.”

“What exactly did he say when you propositioned him?”

I put my head in my hands. “He basically said I was shallow and should get better friends if I need it to look like I’m in a fake relationship just to impress them.”

“Present company excluded, I think he may have a point, babe.”

I look up at her as I rest my elbows on the table. “Thanks for the vote of confidence.”

“God, he’s sweet, sexy, and smart as well, and he looks out for you, which is even better. I say, jump him at the wedding.”

I throw my pen at her. “You’re insane.”

“Call it what you want, but I know I felt sparks between the two of you.”

“Now you really are crazy. I’m Angelo’s little sister,” I say. “And Enzo could have any girl he wants, whenever he wants.”

Bianca leans over the desk and pats me on the arm. “You really need to get laid, V.”

Someone clears their throat as I shift my eyes over Bianca’s head. She almost chokes on her pretzel when she sees Marco standing there.

Since he owns the building, he feels he can just pop up whenever he likes, with no warning. Like a phantom.

And by the look on his face, I can see that he just overheard what Bianca said about me getting laid.

“Marco,” I say, shooting daggers at B. “What are you doing here?”

He frowns as Bianca stands. “Looking good, Marco,” she says as she exits the room, giving him a big smile.

“What was that all about?” He takes a few steps toward me.

I shrug. “Girl talk.”

His jaw tightens. He and Angelo could fight it out between the two of them, who is more overbearing.

“I’m going to need you this afternoon at the casino to go over the presidential suites.”

“I’ve scheduled you in for tomorrow,” I reply, trying to keep my temper in check. “Like we discussed.”

“I need to change it.”

“Well, I’m sorry, I can’t. I have other appointments.”

“Can’t you move them? This is important.”

Bianca always tells me to breathe when things get stressful or when someone acts or says something dumb. I count to five and try to keep the annoyance out of my tone.

One crackerjack.

Two crackerjack.

“What I do is important too, Marco. I can’t just drop everything because you can’t get your shit together.”

Of course he would think I have absolutely nothing else going on in my life except his freaking casino. It’s all he’s invested in at the moment and all he harps on about.

He raises a brow. “Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed?”
