“When I woke up… in there… I didn’t know what to think, or where I was, or if I would ever see you again… It was horrible, Fynn. I don’t want to live another second without you in my life.”

He rises and kisses me gently, as if I’m going to break. “And I don’t want to live another second without you. I love you, Sage. I never want to let you go again.”

“I love you too,” I whisper, my lips brushing against his. “I love you so damn much.”

“I’ll drive you to the hospital.”

I don’t argue, there’s no point.

I can’t believe that fucking bastard buried me.

“Why did he take me?” I wonder. “I’m only important to you, not Angelo or the family.”

“No, you’re important to all of us. Angelo was beside himself with worry. You’re family, Sage. You always have been, and always will be. And we protect our own, all of my brothers and Rocco and Enzo. That is the difference between cowards like Roberto and men like us. I will always be in the fucking world to save you.”

He’s like something out of a dream, except he’s not, he’s right here with me.

“Take me home.”

He kisses my nose. “Nice try, baby cakes. Not happening. Not until you get checked over.”

He shuts the passenger door and jogs around to the driver’s side.

I curl up on the seat as he slides in and starts the engine, facing him.

He leans across and straps me in with my seatbelt, stroking my face.

“I’m going to make you forget all about this,” he promises, brushing my hair back and tucking it behind my ear.

“I know.” I smile, exhaustion setting in. “And then I want to go home to bed.Ourbed.”

He rewards me with a quick peck to the lips.

“I’ve never heard such sweet words in all my life.” He turns and we take off. Leaving the carnage far behind. In the distance, where it belongs.

* * *

“Fynn!” I call out.

Two seconds later, he comes flying through the door.

“Are you okay?” He looks frantic as he opens the shower door, looking for any signs of distress.

I smile. “I’m fine. I thought you were in the other room.”

I should’ve known better.

Fynn is never very far away from me these days.

It’s been three days and he won’t let me leave the suite.

“No, I’m right here. Why did you call me, what’s wrong?”

I reach for him. “I need you to join me.”

An apprehensive look washes over his face, and I frown.

“Okaaay, not exactly the look I expected you to give me when I’m standing here under the warm spray, completely naked.”
