It’s weird to see him in this sort of role; he looks professional and like he was made for it. That is until I catch the restlessness in his eyes and that need for more that we all have in us. That’s why he’s not just a doctor, and that’s why he does what he does.

“What’s the plan now?” Harley asks, “Ace caught us up on what happened with the Rougarou.”

Jynx

Harley’s question thankfully gives me the opportunity to switch into work mode and get out of my head a bit since I didn’t realise myself quite how worried I was about Micha.

“Micha, Waverly, and the kids are now completely safe. In fact, I think they’re going to have the Rougarou watching out for them, so they're safer than they ever were. The plane is on standby and ready to go as soon as we are, so if you want to do all the usual stuff you do to close down a case, and then we’ll meet you at the airport as soon as you’re done?”

Asher nods, “Absolutely. I’ll get everyone on it now. It shouldn’t take us too long.”

“Good. Tell Sawyer that we can talk about the meeting on the plane. I know he’s been wanting to,” I add with a smile.

“He’s worrying like a mother hen,” Harley replies with an amused but affectionate smile.

“He’s messaged me several times asking me to remember certain things for him,” Ace adds.

I smile as I head over to him and tuck myself under his arm. I’m actually really glad that they all get on. It’s nice to know that we can rely on the Conspiracy not just in a work capacity but also on a friendship level as well. It has honestly made this whole situation so much easier to go through, knowing that I have them at my back and can rely on them in any situation.

“That sounds like Sawyer,” Asher adds and then continues, “I’ll go and let them know that we’ll be taking off soon so that Fox can put in some emergency transfer work for us, and we can tell the hospital that we need to leave immediately. It works better than trying to earase us from all of the security cameras and systems and shit like that.”

“Yeah, that makes sense,” Mason replies from next to me, and I hold out my hand to him so I can thread my fingers through his.

I’m getting sleepy now that we know everyone is safe and there’s no other threat to them. My mind and body have decided that it's safe enough to catch up on some proper non-restless sleep that isn’t plagued by worry. I can't wait to sleep on the plane or just curl up with one or all of my men. I’m going to force myself not to think about the whole meeting thing until tomorrow morning, or at least not stress about it since I know Sawyer is going to want to talk about it on the plane at least a little bit.

“Jynx, Micha is asking for you,” Waverly says as she walks through the door with a relieved and happy smile.

I instantly extract myself from the guys and head straight for her, wrapping her in my arms and giving her a big hug as I whisper, “I told you he was going to be okay.”

“And I appreciate that you told me that even though you didn’t know for certain and we’re worrying yourself. I love you,” she replies knowingly and I should’ve known that I couldn’t fool her.

“I love you too,” I mutter and then pull back, “right, I need to yell at Micha for making me worry.”

“I think he’s preparing himself for that,” Waverly chuckles as she starts to lead me out the door, and I pause to turn back to the guys.

“I’ll be back in a second,” I tell them.

“Go, we’ll be fine here. If you need us yell,” Malachi replies for all of them.

I smile gratefully and make a note that they all look just as exhausted as I feel, and as soon as we’ve got the meeting out of the way, we’re going to take a few days at least off to relax and recharge.

Chapter Ten

“Hey, stranger,” I greet Micha as I walk into his room, and I try not to wince at the bruises covering his face and arms.

Waverly instantly goes to his side, climbing up on the bed next to him and taking his hand as her eyes stay glued to him.

“You can say it,” Micha grins as his eyes move over to me.

“You look like shit,” I blurt out with a grin of my own, and we all start laughing. The laughter has a slightly hysterical edge to it as we let out all of the worry that has been building over the last few days.

“I can always count on you to tell me the truth,” he chuckles and then becomes serious as he adds, “Thank you for keeping Waverly and the kids safe when I couldn’t. And for keeping me safe as well, I got a bit in over my head with that one.”

I cross my arms over my chest, “Of course, you know I will always keep you all safe if I can, but you also realise that all of this could’ve been avoided if you’d let Waves or me know that there was an issue in the first place. It’s not all on you, Waverly is more than capable of dealing with shit like that, and you can’t keep stuff from her if you’re expecting to make this new dynamic that you’ve got going on work.”

Micha’s serious brown eyes meet mine as he nods, “Yeah, I know. I fucked up, and it won’t happen again.”

“Good.” I reply firmly and then add with a smile, “I’m so fucking glad that you’re okay.”
