Sawyer nods, “Okay, I think the guys will appreciate that. We’ve had back-to-back jobs recently, so we could do with a rest and some proper time at home. What about you guys though? It’s not like you’ve had any proper downtime recently.”

I smile at the concern in his voice, “We will rest after we’ve done the Mona job, so don’t sign us up for any while you’re helping the tech team.”

Sawyer frowns, clearly not liking that we haven’t really had a rest recently but replies, “Okay, I’ll make sure that no jobs are sent your way for a while.”

“Thanks, man,” Rip replies.

“If that’s how we’re going to work this, then since we will be on the job, text us if you need anything. If we can, we’ll call you back. If it’s an emergency, send a text saying corvid and one of us will contact you immediately.” Rome suggests to Sawyer.

“Got it. I’ll send you updates every couple of days anyway, with who is where and all that shit,” he replies.

“Got it, thanks, man,” Rome replies, “are you coming in for a bit?”

Sawyer shakes his head as his eyes light up with happiness, “Nah since we’ve got the evening off now because everything is getting started tomorrow, we’re having a game night and dinner at Fox’s place that he inherited not that long ago. It’s a pretty amazing piece of property and doesn’t hold any bad memories like mine does.

“That sounds awesome,” Mal replies, a hint of wistfulness in his voice, “have fun.”

“We will,” he replies, and then adds seriously, “let me know if you need us at any point with the Mona job.”

“Will do.”

Smiling, he practically runs to his car and then haphazardly waves out the window as he makes his way down the long driveway.

“So, how about takeout and a movie?” Ace suggests, hopefully, “a little break before we start the Mona job.”

“Yeah, that sounds good to me,” I reply excitedly.

However, my mood immediately dampens as my phone starts to ring, and I pull it out to see Mona’s number on the screen.

Frowning, Rome asks, “Who is it?”

“Mona,” I reply, sighing, “do you think I could get away with not answering?”

“You did tell her we weren’t doing anything until tomorrow,” Ace replies.

“But it might be an emergency,” Mal adds, and I hate that he has a point.

Sighing, I reply, “Fine,” and then press answer.

Before I can even mutter hello, Mona’s angry voice comes through the phone, “They’ve fucking taken her!”

Putting the phone on speaker I reply, “Taken who?”

“My daughter, they’ve taken my daughter.” She replies, and underneath the bubbling anger is the obvious thread of fear and upset that her daughter has been taken.

“We’re on our way Mona,” I reply, “where was she taken from?”

“The grounds,” Mona replies incredulously.

“Don’t touch anything, and if you know where she was last seen, do not let anyone go near it,” I order.

“Got it,” she replies, and then adds, sounding more vulnerable than I think she intended, “Hurry, please.”

“We’re coming now,” I reassure her and hang up.

“Well, shit,” Mason mutters as we stand in the foyer of the house, having literally only managed to step through the door before she called, “Is everyone still armed, and do you all have everything that you’re going to need?”

Everyone replies that they have, apart from Ace, who says, “I’ve just got to go and grab my laptop. Their system has been compromised, and I definitely don’t trust it. I’ll need to use my laptop to search security cameras for her and shit like that. I’m assuming she has security cameras?”
