He pushes it behind my ear, the pads of his fingers grazing the shell and gliding down the side of my face to my chin. Goosebumps break out across my body. His touch is featherlight with the smallest hint of roughness from his calluses. He lifts my chin slightly to make sure my eyes are on him.

“More than anything in my life,” he whispers, finally answering my question.

My heart jumps, stops, then restarts at a thunderous pace. I wonder if he means more than just sleeping in bed with me, and that thought electrifies me.

I scoot closer to him, sliding my arm over his waist to pull my lower half closer to his. His legs hook around mine, bringing me even closer, so our legs intertwine. His arm slides under mine, wrapping me in his warm, woodsy scent. I close my eyes and inhale, not caring if I look like a weirdo.

“You know what I thought the first time I saw you at the café?” he rasps out.

“No, what?” I’m both excited and nervous to hear his answer.

“That you were the most beautiful woman I’d ever laid my eyes on. You made me nervous as hell.” He laughs.

I laugh at that, too. “Youwere nervous? Try being a woman on the run from her crazy ex only to find the town detective to be the hottest guy she’s ever seen.”

“You think I’m hot?” he asks as he runs his hands up and down my back. Those goosebumps spread everywhere.

I lean back a little, so I can pull my hand up between us. I hold my finger and thumb close together but don’t let them touch. “Just a smidge.” I give a sly grin.

“Asmidge, huh? That’s it. I’ll get you for that.”

He relentlessly tickles my sides, and I bark out a rush of laughter.

“Okay, okay!” I wheeze. “I think you’resuperhot. Like the hottest man alive. They should nominate you for an award.”

He stops and pulls me on top of him. My hips land perfectly over his, my legs straddling him on either side. Our laughter dies at the instant heat that flares at our proximity.

Slowly, I lean down to touch my lips to his. I kiss his lips gently, then move down to the cleft in his chin, kissing there as well. I make my way around his face, leaving dainty trails of kisses up and down his face and neck.

His hands roam my back, inching closer and closer to my ass. His excitement radiates from him and moves through me. It only spurs me on as heat grows between my legs.

I run my hands along his chest, exploring all the dips and ridges of those breathtaking abs. I play with the top of his pajama pants before skirting back up to his pecs. He groans in pleasure but makes no move to take it any further.

I take my time, enjoying the feel of him under me before he loses his patience and flips me underneath him.

“My turn,” he growls.

His nose starts at the base of my neck, right at the dip of my collarbone, inhaling my scent. It drives me wild because I know what his scent does to me. His nose continues a path up my neck until he reaches my jaw.

There’s the slightest pressure before a warm, intoxicating kiss follows. He explores me as thoroughly as I explored him, listening for when my breaths pick up and little moans escape.

When he hears something he likes, he spends a little extra time there, causing my thighs to rub together to relieve the tension. He moves down to my chest, barely grazing over my nipples, then back up again.

His eyes bore into mine. They’re intense, open, and breathtakingly beautiful. Everything about this man is beautiful. His soul, his kindness, his heart, and his body.

When he leans down next, his lips crash against mine as he gives me the best kiss I’ve ever had in my life. My toes curl as my chest arches up into his. My hands wrap around his head so I can pull him closer to me.

His tongue grazes my bottom lip before slipping between them. It wraps around mine, and heat races through me. I feel like I’m on fire, but it’s the scary kind. The all-consuming kind you never want to leave, one that infiltrates every cell in your body and warms it from the inside out.

We kiss like that for seconds, minutes, or hell, maybe hours. Neither of us want to break the connection, but we pull away at the same time. Breathless. He places his forehead on mine. Our eyes are closed as we simply breathe, existing within the best moment of my life.

“I want you to stay. Always,” he rasps out.

“Me, too,” I whisper.

He rolls off and pulls me against his side, tucking me into him. He wraps his arm around me to hold on tight. All night long.
