CHAPTER FIVE

“Wake up!”

Fighting against the groggy confusion of sleep, Talia opened her eyes, blinking up at the face leaning over her.

“What the Fu...” a soft feminine hand quickly covering her mouth. As the dark-haired bartender looked around.

“Sh” Pressing a finger against her lips, she moved her hand from Talia’s mouth. “Do you want to get out of here?”

Turning her head to look at Hydes sleeping face inches away from hers, Talia grasped the hand over her mouth. Her fingers moving it just enough that she could speak.

“Get out of here. He will kill you if he finds you here” she kept her voice as quiet as she could. If he was to wake up, Talia didn’t know what kind of violence would erupt on the girl leaning over her.

“It’s ok, come on,”

Talia shook her head and pointed to her wrist, which was resting next to his on the bed.

“Handcuffed, I dont know where the key is,”

“we don’t need a key,”

There was no mistaking the magical energy that filled the air as the bartender concentrated. For a moment, every nerve and hair stood on end. Just as it did whenever her grandmother cast around her.

“Your a witch!” Talia could have sobbed with relief as the cuff around her wrist unlatched.

“Come on, the storm won’t be calm forever,”

Talia edged to the side of the bed and stood up. The darkness did nothing to lessen the menace that was Hyde. The sheer size of him as he lay spread, shirtless, face down on the bed was just as intimating as when he stood over her. She stepped gingerly, her eyes not leaving his form, searching for any movement as she inched away. The handcuff left hanging empty on his wrist.

“The spell only lasts so long. We’re leaving now,” the woman said urgently, thrusting Talia’s clothes into her arms and pulling her towards the door.

“You can get dressed in the car. “

Barely keeping up with her, Talia pulled the robe tighter around herself as they hurried out of the suite.

Her bare feet seemed loud on the tiled floor of the deserted hotel hallway. Her heart beat faster with each step and she had to fight the urge to sprint. To get as far as way as possible as quick as possible. Finally, the doors to the elevator opened with a buzzing sound. Sighing in relief, she stepped inside. The mirrored walls seemed to mock her as they closed with a loud clang. Hugging herself, she took several deep breaths, trying to calm down as the elevator hummed its way down.

“Oh, my god” could it have been that easy?

The dark-haired woman smiled at her. “I’m Marnie and you are?”

“Talia” Pushing the clothes into one of her arms, Talia held out her hand. Taking it with an amused smile, Marnie shook it.

“Hope you don’t mind my interfering? I just didn’t get the impression you were travelling with them by choice.”

Looking up, Talia could see her reflection staring back at her. Her hair was a mess of blonde tangled curls, framing a pale face and wide eyes. Was this how all kidnapped victims looked?

Clearing her throat, she nodded.

“I can’t thank you enough, Marnie,”

“Don’t thank me,” frowning as the elevator doors opened, “we are not out of trouble yet.”

Taking her hand, Marnie hurried out into the hotel’s lobby.

Talia pulled her back with a sudden stop. Staring at Thorn, she forgot to breathe.
