CHAPTER SEVEN

The storm was slowingits fury. Its howling wind almost lazy as it sent the snow and sleet spiralling. Moving through the trees, Hyde’s focus honed to the pull of his prey. Every step he took was deliberate and innate.

Her scent calling to him, invoking the never-ending drive in him that was now legendary. But this was different. It filled his wolf with a deep urge to find her, to claim her back and kill all who got in his way. It heightened his gift beyond his own expectations. The pull of her was so close now he could almost taste her.

An angry scream broke through the sound of the storm. Spurning himself forward even faster than he was already moving. His eyes searching the trees for her.

The small cabin appearing in a clearing ahead of him. It glowed in his vision with the aura of her scent.

Leaping forward, he cleared the driveway. Landing on the broken porch, the wood cracking under his weight. His blow shattering apart the door.

Everything froze in time for a moment as he took in the room's chaos. Talia struggling against the hold of one of the mountain men. His large hands cut and slightly bleeding as he used his entire weight to hold her down. The other battling with his own wolf not to turn as he stumbled back. A still dripping broken bourbon bottle imbedded in his neck.

Vest ripped open, exposing her cut and bleeding breasts. Her red leather pants tossed to the side. Her upper lip was bloody, her cheek swollen. Twisting on the table, her legs kicking out uselessly against the tallest of the men.

His body already in the first stage of the change. Taller, broader, stronger. His claws grasping her thighs as he ground himself against the thin material of her g-string. His elongated jaw hovering over her. Teeth running over her skin.

Soft laughter dying in his throat, his head barely turning in time to see Hyde move.

Rage driving him forward. His black claws burying themselves in the man's back. Fingers wrapping tightly around the spine, he pulled. With a snapping of bones and a grunt of effort. A spray of blood and tissue filling the air as he held the spine, dripping with pieces of muscle and blood in his hand.

Covered in blood spray, Talia was frozen still. Eyes wide. Her chest heaving with every breath as the man fell forward, sliding down her body to land with a heavy thud on the floor under her legs.

She let out a blood-curdling scream as she stared up at the menacing black werewolf.

“Fuck!” letting her go, the second wannabe rapist moved forward. Skin and cloth ripping as he leapt over the table at Hyde. His claws growing even as he swung.

Hyde snarled at him as he dropped the spine. His arms wrapping around the grey werewolf as he threw them both to the side.

Away from her.

Rolling into the fire, Hyde's eyes glowed even more at the grey wolf yelps of pain. With flames underneath them, the smaller desperate wolf fought frantically, his hind legs raking into Hydes stomach.

Finally, breaking free, rolling across the floor. The smell of burning hair and flesh filling the small room.

Hyde stood amidst the raging fire. Not a single flame or spark seemed to touch his thick fur. His stomach was criss-crossed with deep gashes that were already healing over, as if they had never been there in the first place.

Head hanging low and clearly hurt, the grey werewolf searched for his pack mates, for his backup.

But the last of the three had pulled Talia to her feet. No intention of helping his Pack brother. He stood with a knife at her throat, staring at the door on the opposite side of the room.

Trapped.

Ignoring the urge to lash out, Hyde took a deliberate step forward, his eyes fixed on the man restraining his woman. His lips pulling up over his teeth as the grey wolf straightened to face him. The fear rolling off him was alluring, more than blood ever could be.

Talia made a small, frightened noise in her throat. Without thought, Hyde moved in a blur of black fur.

His opponent hunched in pain even as his own claw sank deep into Hyde's side.

Moving past him, Hyde turned to watch as the Lycan stumbled forward. Two steps before falling face first to the floor. His throat dripping from Hydes bloody claws.
