With a force that stole her breath, he leapt. Her grip digging into him even as his right hand grasped the roof of the balcony, pulling them up and over the railing easily.

Talia took a deep breath of air, willing her fingers to loosen their death grip as she passed through the glass doors into their room.

“Thorn,” his voice was emotionless as he gently lowered her to the floor, his hand on her back to steady her for a moment. Looking around to where Thorn was sitting, Talia forced herself to breathe.

His grin widened as he lowered the pistol.

“If you had just wanted a rough roll in snow, you should have left a note. Ive been sitting here for hours worried sick,” feigning parental concern. Thorn placed a hand over his heart. “Hyde,” his voice chastising, “you know how much I worry,”

“Shut up Thorn,”

The werewolf, disregarding his Alpha, gave Talia a slow wink, his eyes gleaming mischievously.

“Next time you need an itch scratched, let me know. I won’t bleed you as much.”

Before she even opened her mouth to reply, Hyde moved. His fist knocking the smaller man clear out of his chair.

Talia paused and backed up a step, her mouth agape. Her heart pounding hard against her ribs as she watched Thorn’s wolf fill his eyes.

Without taking his eyes off his pack brother, Hyde spoke slowly.

“Go take that shower, Talia. We leave soon.”

She took a step back from both of them and quickly retreated into the bathroom. Leaning against the door, her eyes closing as she tried to steady her breathing.

Her grandmother had told her that the supernatural world was dangerous. That it was something she wasn’t ready for. She opened her eyes, pulling in a deep, shaky breath. Her blonde hair was matted with thick knots of blood as she stared at her disheveled reflection, wearing a dead man’s jacket and socks. Perhaps Nanna had been right. She wasn’t ready.

She wiped away another stray tear, her eyes red and puffy. Pushing herself forward, there was no changing what had happened and standing there covered in enough evidence to earn her a life sentence wouldn’t help anything.

Talia stripped off her jacket and flung the sodden socks to the far corner of the room. More than anything, she needed to get clean.

Turning the tap on, she stripped bare, letting the water wash over her. Her whole body trembling, she sank to the bottom of the crucible.

“WHAT THE FUCK HYDE”rolling to his feet, Thorn glared at his Alpha. His claws flexing as he balanced on his feet. Ready for a fight.

“Watch your mouth around her,” Hyde growled the words out between clenched teeth.

“Are you serious?”

“The black rock clan almost broke her in tonight. Another five minutes and I would have been too late,”

“Well, aren’t you the fucking hero?”

His mood turning razor sharp, Hyde pulled the enforcer closer. His fist tightening in his shirt, his eyes full of challenge as he glared down at him.

“No Thorn.” His growl was deep and threatening. “I’m the fucking bad guy. “

He wanted Thorn to challenge him, wanted a release for his rage. His lips curling up in disdain as Thorn dropped his head. His eyes downward. Submissive.

Every member of the Titans could be an alpha in their own right. Run their own club or pack.

Draven picked only the best. But not one of them could beat Hyde on their own.

Hyde knew his anger was an overreaction. Thorn hadn’t done or said anything he didn’t expect the loud mouth to say.

The problem was the truth.
