With a sigh, Valentine passed the fresh medicine bag over.

“bloody hell, she’s a seer. No wonder Draven wants her.” His eyes seemed to soften for the briefest moment of sympathy.

“But she’s right, Hyde. I’m not sure how much longer Ryder will survive in his king’s care.”

Hydes eyes never left her gaze as his hand reached out for the bag, pulling it to him.

He was going to do it. He was going to deliver her into the hands of this monster with no defences. Talia shook her head and let go of his jacket. She really was nothing but a job to him. Why that brought tears to prick behind her eyes, she didn’t know. But she was so over waiting, she couldn’t risk meeting this vampire.

Reaching for her power, Talia fought off the wave of nausea that came with the effort. Her whole body tingling with warmth as, for the first time in days, her magic answered her call.

Hyde leaned in close, his breath tickling her ear, and spoke slowly. Intimately.

“If you fight me, princess, you may get away.” His low words breathed across her ear. “But I will be forced to kill everyone here. Humans cannot know our secret. This is my city. The cops are mine. The mayor is mine. And in due time, I will find you. Just like I did last night. But this time it will be me you will need to fight off... are you up for that?”

She shivered and turned to stare at him.

Hyde knew what he was. And so did she. He could tell by the slumping of her shoulders, the fading of the soft glow of gold from her eyes. That he had won. And not for the first time since meeting her. He wished it were different. But there was no way one witch could come between him and his pack. There were more lives than just hers at stake. Unzipping the bag, he pulled out the already filled needle.

“Please Hyde, don’t do this,” her eyes glistening. “Dont leave me defenceless” forcing himself to meet her eyes, Hyde kept his hands steady. His face an uncaring mask, he lifted the edge of her t-shirt. Keeping his hands hidden from the other patrons.. He pressed the needle into the soft flesh of her stomach. His face set as she winced.

There was no way he could take her to Draven with her powers returning.

“Please...” a single tear sliding slowly down her cheek, curling along her jawline.

He pressed the end of the syringe down, flooding her system with the poison that would strip her of her powers. Taking away any chance that she might have had to save herself.

“This is happening” against every screaming piece of logic screaming in him. His hand rose to her face. His thumb stroking the tear away.

He moved his hand from her cheek and gently tilted her face towards him. Her lips, wet with tears, trembled. And for a moment, he almost gave in to the temptation to pull her close... To press his mouth to hers and taste the salt glistening on her lips.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing,” each word whispered as her eyes stared into his. Letting her chin go like she had burned him, Hyde growled deeply.

“I am not a good man,”
