Looking down at the rose, her fingers lightly touching the small white flowers of the jasmine. Her favourite flower. It had filled her grandmother’s garden with a fresh scent every spring.

“Your favourite?” His voice was full of anticipation as he watched her bring it to her nose to inhale the scent.

“Since I was a child” it made her nervous that he knew that, but there was no sense in denying the truth. “how did you know?”

“There is so much I know about you, Talia, and so much I’m looking forward to learning. “

“why am I here?” placing the rose on the rail, she ignored the city skyline, the stars above and turned to face him.

“Always so direct” sweeping a stray curl from her face behind her ear, his hand hesitating as she flinched away. A pained look crossing his features. Letting his hand drop, he nodded to himself.

“I have to remember that to you I am a stranger,”

“Who kidnapped me” she reminded him.

“I understand why you are so on edge. I must seem like such a villain to you,”

Pressing her lips together, Talia kept her comment to herself. There was no need to be rude when he was finally talking to her.

Smiling a little at her, “some things change” amusement clear on his face.

“Its hard to know where to begin.”

His smile faded into a more serious expression as he looked down at her.

“I have waited centuries for you, Talia. You are the only woman I have ever loved. My wife, my soulmate,” his hands lifting hers to his lips, he kissed her fingertips. “When I lost you I, thought my soul would wither away. That the darkness of my curse would overcome me without your light to guide my steps. “

Talia shivered as she felt the intensity of his gaze, her entire body tingling with a sense of familiarity in his every movement. Overwhelmed by the moment, she froze as he moved her hand to his cheek. He closed his eyes at the touch, tilting his chin to press his lips tenderly into her palm.

“I almost gave myself to the sun. Unable to live without you.”

His dark eyes opening, a small glint of light reflecting in their depths.

“But you are Arcandian, and I learnt you are all reborn. Born of angels. Rejected by the gods. Your race has no afterlife. But many lives. I just had to wait,”

“so you thought it would be romantic to kidnap me?” whispering the words, she pulled her fingers off his skin.

Letting her pull her hand away, he sighed.

“I wasn’t strong enough to protect you when you were with me last. I have spent lifetimes making sure I would never be that weak again. So that when you were reborn, we wouldn’t have to live in fear of my enemies. “

“I had all intentions of letting you discover our world. I had plans upon plans for how I would approach you. How I would romance you,”

A faint smile played on his lips as he let out a sigh. “but my enemies found you first. I had no options left. I had to bring you here quickly.”

“You had to kidnap me?” Turning away, Talia laughed a little as she stared out over the city below.

“Drugged, handcuffed, chased. This was the last thing I was expecting. I dont know you and I’m not sure I want to,”

Stepping behind her, his hands on her shoulders, she swore she felt him tremble behind her.

“I am so sorry, my love. I’ve acted rashly and sent a thug to do what I should have done myself. Foolishly, I thought I was protecting you. Tell me how I can make it right?”

Turning, she looked up at him. She didn’t hesitate.

“Send me home,” her voice firm.
