There was no way she would stay to find out. She had to escape. There was simply no other choice.

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

The lodge was highin the hills overlooking the city. Set on ten acres of some of the most beautiful hills on the west coast.

It was Draven’s favourite home away from home.

Yet for the most of the day Hyde and his men had been getting it ready for the vampire king’s new guests.

The basement was secured and firmly locked. They removed the blood bags stored in the fridge and took down the hooks that normally lived in the master bedroom from the ceiling.

Even after years of neglect, the library was easy to clean.Yet removing dust and spiderwebs did nothing to cover the musty smell of old books. As if every corner held a dark secret, it refused to give up to any cleaning chemical.

Hyde motioned for Mammoth to exit the gate, moving to the front to guard it himself. His arms crossed in front of him as he waited.

As the sun began to set, he strained his eyes and finally saw the black Mercedes that he had sent Valentine in, pulling up in front of the wide veranda. The two bikes on either side coming to a stop as Hyde stepped forward.

As Valentine moved to open the car door, Hyde nodded in acknowledgement. He stood patiently, watching as three men and one woman stepped out of the car.

“Welcome to the lodge” his nose twitching a little as he inhaled the scents of Draven’s guests. Cologne and perfume were always the first impressions of humans, but under that was something a little different. Something that tickled his nose that he couldn’t quite put a finger on.

Dressed in Armani or Versace suits. The men turned to face him. The woman, her eyes meeting his, surprise filling her features before a veneer of disinterest and boredom fell into place.

“Let me show you inside while my men bring in your bags.” Gesturing to the two wolves to dismount and collect the bags, Hyde moved with them inside.

“The King wanted you to have the very best, so his personal lodge is at your every disposal,”

“It is very generous of Draven to make this available for our use.”

“All I smell is bleach” wrinkling her nose, the well-dressed woman moved though the hallway. Her high heels were loud on the tiles.

Her eyes going slightly wider as they walked past the door leading to Draven’s library. She took a step back from them before walking in. Her face lifting to the glass roof as a smile parted her expression of disinterest.

His skin warming, Hyde stepped with the others into the room. He always hated this room. So many of the symbols on the wall making his demonic powers want to surge. Which made it harder to control his beast.

Being careful to avoid the large pentagram on the floor. He waited, his arms crossed as he leaned against the door frame.
