“Full moon is close, and this is perfect,” turning to the eldest of the group, her smile became a grin. “You can feel the power stored here,”

The eldest of the group turning to Hyde

“Please forgive us, we are holding you up” the human man met his eyes. His face calm, respectful. If Hyde hadn’t already decided not to like them, he might have changed it.

Hyde shrugged, trying to keep his face expressionless.

“It’s no problem,”

Human occultists. It took everything in him not to roll his eyes. If Draven was avoiding using Arcandians for any magic needed, then it could only mean these nicely dressed folks were engaging in the demonic arts. The very thing that stole his mother from him. He had little care for it. In fact, he would happily watch them all bleed out on the floor.

“Please continue with your tour.”

With a slight pout on her face, the woman reluctantly followed them out. Her hand trailing over some glyphs on the wall.Carved in stone and painted in blood long ago.

Moving them through the home. He pointed out the bedrooms, the bathrooms, the pool out the back, and led them to the lounge. To where five of his men stood waiting.

Guard duty on humans. Whoever these people were, he had been ordered to treat them like any other visiting V.I.P.

Keeping his face as pleasant as he could, Hyde introduced them to their new security detail. Everywhere they went within the city, at least two of his men would accompany them. And on the full moon, they would be replaced by the handful of vampires that he had trained over the years.

At the sound of Draven’s car, Hyde’s head rose. His gaze turning to the door.

This close to sundown, Draven would have had to have left the city while the sun was still in the sky. The king was trying to impress his guests. Only pure born vampires could tolerate the sun, to any degree. It was a risk his boss wouldn’t normally take.

This whole thing here was raising his heckles.

“Excuse me,” waving for Valentine to take over. Hyde made his way to the door to meet his master.

The black limousine pulling to a stop just outside. Stepping forward, Hyde opened the door himself.

“Boss,”

Adjusting his jacket as he got out of the car. Draven shot him a look.

“The word you’re looking for Hyde is Master,”

“Your guests have only just arrived.” Ignoring the comment, Hyde moved into step beside the vampire. Barely stopping himself from inhaling the scent of Talia that clung to the king’s jacket. Jealously, raw and vicious, ripping its way through him.

He was going to have to get a bloody grip on himself.

Stepping into the lounge, Draven extended his hand to greet the eldest of the humans.

“Damascus, it’s been too long,”

The man turned from Valentine, taking the vampire’s hand as he returned the handshake.

“One hundred and fifty years, to be precise,”

Hyde’s eyebrow went up as he glanced over at Valentine. Who simply shrugged. The human didn’t smell of vampire blood. So, being that old, there had to be some serious dark magic involved.

“Indeed.” Draven stepped forward to face the female. His smile was genuine. “Simone, as always, so good to see you” Leaning in he planted a kiss on the smiling woman’s cheek.

“Draven, a delight. “

Nodding at her, he turned his attention back to Damascus.

“Do you have everything in order?”
