Without flinching, the human met the vampire’s intense gaze, refusing to back down. “I do. Do you?”

“My bride to be is more than ready,”

Bride. Hyde’s head shot up. His gaze locking with the human priest, who was staring right at him. Giving him the smallest of nods. Damascus refocused on Draven.

“Then we have much to discuss.”

His chest tight, Hyde kept his jaw clenched as Draven turned to him.

“I need you to return to the city, prepare for many more guests to arrive in the next week.”

“How many more are you expecting? Our secure locations are already full. I will need more than a week to ensure that we have more ready. Not to mention full moon,”

Draven knew that come full moon. Most werewolves left the city. The call to the moon was almost impossible to overcome.

Hyde had spent years training a secondary force of ghouls and vampires, so they could be called upon in times of need. Taught to guard the city’s most vulnerable areas in their absence. However, they did not cover everything.

Shaking his head

“It can’t be done” Meeting Draven’s eyes, Hyde didn’t flinch as the vampire moved faster than he could react. Pressing up against him. His power flaring, Draven stared into his eyes from just inches away.

“Get it done,”

“Sure thing... Boss” keeping his face void of the smirk that dripped off every word Hyde stepped back. Waving his hand at Valentine to accompany him.

“It was good to meet you today, Lord... Alpha” Damascus stated with a small nod before turning to walk with Draven.

“Lord?” Chuckling, Draven stepped outside with the occultist. “I need to teach you about the food chain. “

Without another word, Hyde left. Ignoring the woman’s curious eyes on his back as he made his way out.

SHE HAD BARELY SLEPT, tossing and turning as her mind churned. The conversation kept echoing in her mind, each word becoming more pronounced. And now she met Ghost’s gaze and tried not to lie. She didn’t know if it was true that werewolves could smell lies. But if she was careful, it wouldn’t be a lie.

“I need to do this” her voice didn’t even waver.

“You reek of fear,”

She shivered in the cool air and pulled the robe tighter around her. Talia raised her chin. “Ive never had sex with a vampire. Of course, the idea terrifies me. But if he is truly my husband, then that fear will go.”

Pressing the button on the elevator, Talia swallowed as they started to descend.

Glancing at her from the corner of her eye, Ghost turned to face her.

“Vampires will always want blood with their sex. They can’t help it. Draven will bite you. He will enjoy it because you’re an Arcandian. Without your magic, you’re vulnerable. Please don’t do this now,”

Swallowing, Talia nodded. Taking a deep breath, she kept her gaze on the doors of the elevator.

“Like I wasn’t scared enough,”

Before Ghost could reply, the doors opened.

Level sixteen, Draven’s bedroom.

Stepping into the small foyer, a small layer of sweat prickling her skin, she shifted under the silk robe.

She had waited all evening for this moment. Draven had sent her a note telling her he wouldn’t be joining her tonight.
