Only to collapse under Draven’s relentless punishment. His strength gone. His breath shallow in her ear. His body shaking uncontrollable against hers.

The room was quiet as the whip lay bloody and finally still against the stones of the floor.

“Move him off her and bring her to me.”

Blinking as hands reached down and pulled Hydes large form off her. The manacles being unlocked from her wrists and ankles, they pulled her to her feet.

Barely grasping the cut remnants of her robe to her. She gave a broken gasp at the sight of Hydes back as he hung half conscious between two of his own pack. Holding him before the king that had so willingly tore into his back. His shirt hanging in tatters off his large frame. But it was the flesh on his back that stopped her heart beat. His flesh had been torn into ribbons. Shredded.

A soft smoke rising from the deeper lacerations of his muscles. It looked more like one large open wound rather than multiple lashes.

Being semi lifted, semi dragged past Hyde. Her eyes focussed on Draven as he sat on the edge of his throne. His gloved hands resting on his knees. His dark eyes staring at her intensely.

Knowing that the vampire court behind her bare back had taken a step forward. Talia refused the urge to shrink under his harsh gaze. Instead, she squared her shoulders. Raising her chin to meet his gaze with a tear-filled glare of her own.

“From this moment on, you are forgiven. Punishment has been dealt,” standing. He moved down the steps to her.

“You almost killed him,” every word filled with horrified accusation.

Tilting her chin up with a gloved finger, he meets her eyes.

“For you, my dear. I almost killed my best wolf. For you,” smiling, he lowered his head, his mouth hovering over hers, “To keep you safe,”

Pressing his lips against hers, he pulled her against him.

Her stomach twisting in revolution, she shook as he deepened the kiss. His tongue forcing her lips to part. His fangs piercing her lips softly, filling her mouth with a quick burst of blood.

Gasping, she pulled away.

His eyes watching her every horrified expression, he smiled as he ran his tongue over his bloody lips. Savouring the taste of her before he spoke. His voice was full of command.

“Go, my Queen, tend to yourself. Tomorrow is a new eve.”

Resisting the urge to swear at him. Talia swallowed hard past the lump in her throat and forcing herself to nod her head instead.

Stepping back. She felt Ghosts’ hands on her shoulders before the taller woman slipped a jacket over her shoulders.

Fresh tears springing to her eyes, she turned, pushing her arms into the oversized jacket. Wincing as her own open lacerations almost forgotten under Hydes blood pulled. Sending jarring pain across her back as fresh blood seeped into the top of her underwear.

Draven’s wave of dismissal was worse than the pain, as the werewolf guards lifted Hyde and took him out of the room..

Walking slowly with Ghost. Talia’s eyes tracked the trail of Hydes blood. The small drops or smears staining the floor at nearly every step she took.

The large doors of the throne room closing behind them as Talia moved, her breathing loud in her ears.

“Why isn’t he healing?”

Ghost’s hand on her arm tightened. Taking the remaining steps to the elevator at the end of the hall, before spinning. Pushing her back against the wall. Her eyes glaring down at her.

Talia gritted her teeth in pain as she grasped onto Ghost’s wrists, trying to steady herself.

As the doors to the elevator opened, the two security guards hesitated.

“Take him to the infirmary. Everything’s fine here” Ghost’s voice was thick with command. A voice that was used to being listened to. Nothing like the casual woman Talia had gotten to know in the last week.

Her eyes not fully human, Ghost waited for the elevator doors to close before leaning closer in.

“Because of your little stunt, Hyde is as close to death as Ive ever seen him. And I once plunged a silver knife into his chest,”
